A heartfelt THANK YOU to LEAD (Lee County Empowering, Advancing, and Developing) for believing in the mission of the FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp!

Because of grants and investments from organizations like LEAD, girls ages 11–15 had the opportunity to explore the exciting world of construction and skilled trades through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world experiences.

Opportunities like this don't happen without people who believe in the next generation and are willing to invest in their future. Your support helped build confidence, open doors, and inspire future leaders in our workforce.

A special thank you to FL Crane for generously providing flooring materials and skilled professionals to guide our campers through the flooring installation process. Their hands-on instruction helped bring each team's project one step closer to completion.

We also want to thank Lee Carson of Carson Creations for providing lunch and sharing his expertise in tiny house construction. Through detailed photos and real-world examples, campers gained a better understanding of the planning, design, and building process that goes into creating a tiny home.

We are incredibly grateful for industry partners like FL Crane and Carson Creations who invest their time, knowledge, and resources to inspire the next generation of construction and skilled trades professionals.

A huge thank you to Gannon's Painting & Wall Covering for providing supplies and teaching our campers proper painting techniques. Thank you to Graham Roofing for demonstrating how different roofing systems are installed and removed while sharing valuable industry knowledge. We also appreciate Byrne/Zizzi for providing lunch and leading a great discussion on first paychecks, budgeting, and answering the many accounting and financial questions from our campers.

Experiences like these help our girls see the many career opportunities available within construction and the skilled trades while building valuable life skills along the way.

πŸ”¨πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Day 3 of the FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp was one for the books!

A huge thank you to Jesco for taking the time to lead our campers through an active jobsite and explain the many moving parts involved in a real construction project. Seeing construction in action helped bring classroom concepts to life and gave the girls a firsthand look at the opportunities available within our industry.

Thank you to Build Mississippi for providing lunch and sharing our passion for promoting careers in construction and the skilled trades. Through engaging activities and games, the girls learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and collaborationβ€”skills that are essential both on the jobsite and in everyday life.

We also extend our appreciation to FL Crane for providing hands-on drywall training. Our campers gained valuable experience learning the skills and craftsmanship that go into creating quality finished spaces.

Day 3 was a success because of dedicated industry partners and community leaders who are willing to invest their time, expertise, manpower, and resources to help educate and inspire the next generation. Thank you for helping us build awareness of the many opportunities available for girls in construction and the skilled trades.

πŸš§πŸ’– Day 5...WOW! What an unforgettable experience! πŸ’–πŸš§
The final day of the FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp was packed with skilled presenters, hands-on learning, and the excitement of bringing each camper's vision to life.
Each morning began with a safety reminder, reinforcing the importance of proper PPE and job site safety. Campers then learned from flooring industry professionals who guided them through the process of installing flooring and shared valuable tips from their own experiences.
During break, the girls explored the world of interior design, selecting accessories and finishing touches to personalize their spaces and make each project uniquely their own.
Our Lunch & Learn featured an expert in tiny house construction, who shared the design and building process while encouraging campers to think creatively about the many possibilities within construction and the skilled trades.
The afternoon was filled with final preparations as each team completed its project and got ready for the Camp Showcase. Friends and family were invited to tour the finished spaces, cheer on campers during a skills competition, and celebrate each participant as they received a certificate and special gifts recognizing their hard work and accomplishments.
As we close out our first FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp, we are reminded that this week was about so much more than building projects. It was about building confidence, friendships, leadership skills, and an awareness of opportunities that many of these girls had never considered.
This incredible experience would not have been possible without the generous support of our industry partners, sponsors, volunteers, instructors, and community members who invested their time, talents, and resources. Because of you, 13 girls from 10 schools across Northeast Mississippi leave this week knowing they belong, they are capable, and they have a place in the future of construction and the skilled trades.

Another incredible day of learning, building, and discovering new possibilities!
πŸ”¨ Our campers gained hands-on roofing experience from industry experts, learning the skills, techniques, and teamwork that go into protecting and building our communities.
πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ We were honored to welcome the Mississippi State Board of Contractors, who shared valuable information about career pathways, licensing, and the many opportunities available in construction and the skilled trades.
🌟 The CREATE Foundation also spent time with our campers, reinforcing the importance of programs like this that inspire the next generation and help address the growing need for more women in construction and skilled trades careers.
🍽️ During our Lunch & Learn, the girls had the opportunity to hear from accounting industry professionals who shared their personal career journeys, along with tips on saving money with every paycheck. They also encouraged them to dream big, and reminded them that there is a place for everyone willing to work hard and learn.
The afternoon was spent with local paint professionals that shared various painting techniques and helped campers to make their ideas for their space a reality.
Every nail driven, every question asked, and every new skill learned is helping these young women build confidence while discovering strengths they may not have known they had.

Day 2 of the FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp was filled with hands-on learning, new experiences, and incredible mentorship!
A special thank you to Itawamba Community College, Kline Mechanical Systems, and Carpenter Electric for bringing your expertise directly to our campers. Because of your willingness to invest your time and talents, our girls had the opportunity to learn about careers in construction and the skilled trades while gaining real-world, hands-on experience.
From working with plumbing and electrical concepts to asking questions and learning from Scott Emison about construction and skilled trades opportunities at ICC, our campers are discovering that they are capable of building amazing thingsβ€”and that there is a place for them in this industry.

πŸš§πŸ’– WEDNESDAY, DAY 3 RECAP | FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp πŸ’–πŸš§
What an incredible day of learning, exploration, and hands-on experience!
Campers stepped outside the classroom and onto an active job site where they were welcomed like royalty. They had the opportunity to see construction in action, ask questions, and connect what they've been learning this week to real-world projects. Experiences like these help our girls see that there are countless opportunities waiting for them in construction and the skilled trades.
Back at camp, the learning continued with Build Mississippi providing lunch and leading a team building activity in support of teamwork in the construction and skilled trades industry.
Local industry experts then lead a hands-on drywall session. The girls learned how to hang, mud, and prepare drywall, getting their projects one step closer to the finishing touches of sanding and paint. Watching their confidence grow with every new skill has been amazing!
Every day, these young women are discovering new strengths, building new skills, and realizing that the construction industry has a place for them. Wednesday’s experiences reinforced the importance of keeping an open mind and exploring all the exciting career paths available in construction and the skilled trades.

Today, our campers rolled up their sleeves and explored the exciting worlds of Electrical and Plumbing, gaining hands-on experience while learning the skills that keep our homes, schools, and communities running every day. From wiring basics to plumbing connections, these young women proved they are ready to tackle any challenge!
We also explored college opportunities in construction and skilled trades, showing campers the many educational areas available to turn their interests into rewarding careers.

What a great way to kick off FORGE NEMS Girls Construction Camp!

A huge thank you to B & B Concrete for providing a hands-on concrete demonstration and lunch. The girls got a firsthand look at the construction industry while learning from experienced professionals.

This week, they'll be putting those skills to work by building accessibility ramps that will be donated to 7 Days for the Troops, a nonprofit organization dedicated to installing ramps for veterans in need.

We're excited to watch these young women learn, build, and make a difference in their community. Thank you to everyone helping make this experience possible! πŸ’—πŸ”¨
