American Legion Post # 49 Tupelo, Ms

American Legion Post # 49 Tupelo, Ms The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness.

It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. It is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization, committed to mentoring youth and sponsorship of wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow servicemembers and veterans. Hundreds of local American Legion programs and

activities strengthen the nation one community at a time. American Legion Baseball is one of the nation’s most successful amateur athletic programs, educating young people about the importance of sportsmanship, citizenship and fitness. The Heroes to Hometowns program connects local Legionnaires with recovering wounded warriors and their families, providing a variety of support activities. The Legion raises millions of dollars in donations at the local, state and national levels to help veterans and their families and to provide college scholarship opportunities. The American Legion is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization with great political influence perpetuated by its grass-roots involvement in the legislation process from local districts to Capitol Hill. Legionnaires’ sense of obligation to community, state and nation drives an honest advocacy for veterans in Washington. The Legion stands behind the issues most important to the nation's veterans community, backed by resolutions passed by volunteer leadership. The American Legion’s success depends entirely on active membership, participation and volunteerism. The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives.

We had a big day today at our weekly Wednesday morning breakfast. It was our pleasure to host the officers that work for the Lee County Jail this morning. We appreciate the hard work they do every day. Thanks to Captain Ronnie Partlow the Jail administrator who is a Veteran for helping to get them there.

As a Pharmacist it didn’t make sense to me that the VA would penalize veterans who take medications to relieve symptoms to reduce their rating because the prescribed medications were helping the veteran. Only to a beurocrat in a cubicle could this ever make sense.

Latest update!! Don't stop posting comments to the Federal Register on the issue. We have to continue to lookout for each other!

This morning we took a group of guys to the Toyota Experience in Blue Springs. We could not take any pictures inside the plant but it was very impressive. We watched a heavily automated process of building a car from scratch and watching it roll off the assembly line. A new car rolls off every 71 secs. Very impressive. The tour is free to anyone and every high school senior should take the tour. Who knows you may have a career path waiting on you. 🫡

Tupelo Post 49 held it's Oratorical Competition at the Post level this past Saturday. We had two contestants, Zander Nichols a High School Senior and Mac Marcy a High School Sophomore. The American Legion’s National Oratorical Contest challenges high school students to explore and understand the U.S. Constitution while developing confidence, leadership, and communication skills. Since 1938, the program has prepared young people for citizenship through critical thinking and public speaking, while producing notable alumni such as former Vice President Mike Pence, commentator Lou Dobbs, and presidential candidate Alan Keyes.

More than a scholarship competition, the contest is an inspiring experience that restores faith in the future of our democracy. Contestants gain a deeper appreciation for the Constitution and the responsibilities of American citizenship, while building integrity, advocacy skills, and respect for civic engagement. For many participants, it's not just about winning; it's about discovering their voice, strengthening their character, and carrying forward the legacy of American democracy.
