We are looking forward to our next meeting next Monday, May 6 at 6:00 PM at the Lee County Extension Office Multipurpose Room (5338 Cliff Gookin Blvd). Sam Martin from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce will speak on wild hog management.

Invasive hogs are a very relevant topic for most of us. If you plan to attend, please call the Extension Office at 662-841-9000 by 3PM this Friday 5/3 to RSVP.

MSU/Lee County Extension Office in Tupelo will offer training for Private applicator certification on the following dates: August 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.

Seating is restricted and reservations should be made by calling the Lee County Extension Office 662-841-9000. A $20/participant fee is payable upon arrival.

A private applicator is one who uses or supervises the use of restricted-use pesticides to produce an agricultural commodity on property owned or rented by him/his employer. Certification is required before purchasing, transporting or applying restricted use pesticides. This training meets all Federal and state requirements.

MSU Extension provides educational opportunities to the public on an equal opportunity basis and will make every reasonable effort to accommodate individuals with disabilities. If you have a disability that would interfere with your opportunity to participate in this program, contact the county Extension agent within seven (7) days before the date of the program.

Today, Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce Andy Gipson announced that the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) is now accepting a new round of applications for its Wild Hog Control Program (WHCP). The application period will close on Monday, May 16. All Mississippi counties are eligible for the application period.

Through the WHCP, MDAC provides “smart” wild hog traps to landowners and managers for the control of wild hogs on private agricultural and forestry lands in Mississippi. MDAC provides the training necessary to use the “smart” traps and technical guidance regarding the most effective methods to trap and control wild hogs on private lands.

Lee County Forestry Association

Lee County Forestry Association (LeeCoCFA) is an affiliate of Mississippi Forestry Association (MFA) and receives major administrative, logistical and educational support from Mississippi State Extension Service. LeeCoCFA usually meets 4-6 times a year on a 2nd Monday of a month at 6:00pm, and usually at the Lee Co. Extension Offices on Cliff Gookin Blvd., Tupelo, MS. Additionally LeeCoCFA occasionally host workshops, field days, and short courses related to forestry, wildlife management, and natural resources conservation. Meetings typically include an informative program directed primarily at private landowners but including professionals employed in wood products industries as well as in county, state and federal agencies involved in forestry, wildlife management and natural resources conservation. Meetings additionally include fellowship and a meal. Membership dues are twenty-five dollars per calendar year for a member and their spouse. Membership is open to everyone.

CFA members are encouraged to consider additional membership in MFA (https://www.msforestry.net) and the American Tree Farm System (https://www.treefarmsystem.org).
