Appendix cancer can develop when cells in the appendix mutate and form a tumor.
In its early stages, the cancer may not cause symptoms, and it's often discovered during surgery for another condition, such as appendicitis.
When symptoms do appear, they can vary from person to person and include:
Abdominal pain: This can be acute or chronic, and may be located in the lower right abdomen or pelvis.
Bloating: This can be accompanied by an increase in the size of the abdomen or waist.
Other symptoms: These can include nausea and vomiting, feeling full after eating, changes in bowel habits, hernias, ovarian masses, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, indigestion or reflux, and flushing or redness in the face and neck.
