🌟 Meet Your 2026–27 Purchasing Networking Group Leaders πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Say hello to the volunteer leaders guiding WASBO's Purchasing Networking Group, Joy Kuhlmann (Chair) and Jacob Costelloe (Co-Chair)!

Public procurement comes with many rules and questions, but navigating them is easier when you have a network of professional peers alongside you.

With so many regulatory requirements to navigate, it can be difficult to know where to begin and Jacob sees the value of having a strong network of professional peers to turn to:

"The WASBO Purchasing Networking Group allows us all to share resources, contacts, experiences and success stories that build both confidence in our procurement professionals and better value purchases for our students and schools."

For Joy, the year ahead is also an opportunity to reconnect, have open conversations about the challenges members are facing and lean on one another for support and guidance. As Joy puts it:

"We are stronger together!" πŸ’š

Here's to another year of shared resources, honest conversations and learning from one another. Thank you for leading the way, Joy and Jacob!

🌟 Meet Your 2026–27 Legislative Affairs Networking Group Leaders πŸ‘‹πŸ½

This week, we're spotlighting the volunteer leaders guiding WASBO's Legislative Affairs Networking Group β€” Claire Olson (Chair) and Kate Davis (Co-Chair)!

For Claire, one of the most rewarding parts of the group is seeing members come together to share their strengths and build a unified voice through WASBO: "I love attending the meetings, learning about legislation, collaborating, and marveling at how we each bring our strengths to our community to come together as a united front."

Kate is especially looking forward to learning from the varied perspectives and expertise the community will bring to each conversation: "Our meetings are deeply collaborative, allowing us to learn from the many brilliant leaders in our field as we shape a shared platform that truly represents our diverse needs and collective goals."

Whether you're interested in learning more about the legislative process, sharing your perspective or helping shape WASBO's advocacy efforts for the 2027 session, the Legislative Affairs Networking Group is a place to connect, collaborate and make your voice heard. Thank you, Claire and Kate, for helping unite and amplify the voices of Washington's school business community!

Already using WASBO's Business Manager Calendar? Take another look!

The calendar was refreshed in July 2026 to reflect updated monthly tasks, new reminders and current guidance to help you keep pace with today's school business operations. Our appreciation goes to the WASBO Board of Directors for their help in ensuring the calendar remains a practical, up-to-date planning resource for our community each year.

🌟 Meet Your 2026–27 Payroll, Personnel & Retirement (PPR) Networking Group Leaders πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Say hello to the volunteer leaders guiding WASBO's Payroll, Personnel & Retirement (PPR) Networking Group: Alexandra Nicoara (Chair) and Rachelle Gaines (Co-Chair)!

As school districts continuously navigate workforce challenges, Alexandra is looking forward to exploring how districts can balance staffing and leave management with today's budget realities, particularly regarding substitute coverage costs and the impact of total compensation.

When asked how learning from professional peers has shaped her career, Rachelle reflected on the value of the relationships she's built through networking groups:

"School business work can be complex, and having a network of colleagues willing to share their experiences, challenges and solutions has helped me grow professionally, strengthen my own practices and better serve my district. Many of the processes and ideas I rely on today were shaped through conversations with fellow WASBO members."

Whether you're looking for ideas, thoughtful conversations or a community of K-12 professionals who understand the work you do, the PPR Networking Group is a great place to connect and learn together.

Thank you, Alexandra and Rachelle, for investing in your professional peers and helping strengthen Washington's school business community!

🌟 Meet Your 2026–27 Accounting & Budgeting Networking Group Leaders πŸ‘‹πŸ½

Last week, we introduced the first half of WASBO's Accounting, Budgeting & Small Schools Networking Group. This week, we're excited to spotlight the second set of leaders guiding the group β€” Helena Parrish (Chair) and Tona Stapleton (Co-Chair)!

For Helena, one of the greatest benefits of serving as a networking group leader is the opportunity to learn alongside professional peers:

"I'm most excited about learning from the other professionals in the group. I look forward to hearing about their experiences, the best practices they've developed and the lessons they've learned."

And that's exactly what WASBO Networking Groups are all about... bringing school business professionals together to exchange ideas, share solutions and learn from one another.

Here's to another year of collaboration, idea sharing and professional growth. Thanks, Helena and Tona, for helping to lead the way!

🌟 Meet Your 2026–27 Small Schools Networking Group Leaders πŸ‘‹πŸ½

This week, we're introducing the first half of the chairs leading WASBO's Accounting, Budgeting & Small Schools Networking Group - Sue Ellyson and Alan Steinolfson! Together, they're helping WASBO shape a community built on collaboration, shared knowledge and continuous learning.

One topic they're both excited to explore with their professional peers this year? Artificial Intelligence.

Alan is excited to explore how AI can make everyday work more efficient and help communicate or present financial data in fresh, meaningful ways.

Sue is looking forward to learning the practical ways AI can streamline daily tasks, improve workflows, automate repetitive work and make documenting procedures a little easier.

We can't wait to learn with you, Sue and Alan! Thanks for volunteering your time and leadership to support Washington's school business community in the new year ✨

🌟 Meet Your 2026–27 Associated Student Body (ASB) Networking Group Leaders πŸ‘‹πŸ½

As WASBO's Networking Groups kick off planning for the upcoming year, we're excited to introduce the volunteer leaders guiding each group's conversations and collaboration. This week, we're spotlighting the ASB Networking Group chair and co-chair, Candy Walters and Heather Moritz!

For Candy, this year is all about building on the momentum:

"I'm excited to return for year two as ASB Networking Group Chair and build upon what we started last year. I'm also excited to work alongside my co-chair, Heather Moritz."

We're excited too! Heather knows firsthand the value of learning from professional peers. After transitioning to school business from a 13-year career in the medical field, she found confidence and support through WASBO's trainings, conferences and networking opportunities:

"The relationships I've developed with colleagues throughout the state have become an invaluable resource. Their mentorship and shared experiences have helped me navigate challenges, stay informed of regulatory changes and continually improve my processes."

Whether you're new to ASB or have years of experience, the ASB Networking Group provides a place to ask questions, share ideas and learn from other school business professionals who understand the work you do every day.

Thank you, Candy and Heather, for volunteering your time and leadership to support Washington's school business community in the new year!
