Dear Friend of Kamukamu -

If you could, would you want to make a difference in the world in 2018? If your answer is yes, then we can help you accomplish exactly that. The Board of Directors of Kamukamu Learning Foundation is seeking a few good individuals who are interested in joining our board and working with us on exciting new projects to improve education for children in Uganda. As we have done in previous years since 2009, we will again be making a difference in the world in 2018. Why not consider joining us?
What does it mean to join the board of Kamukamu? In general it’s a commitment to work together with fellow board members to help improve education in Uganda. Our mission calls on us to focus on one school and one community at a time. Specifically, board members meet approximately one evening per month to discuss ideas we have received from leaders in specific communities of Uganda to improve their schools. We evaluate proposals, identify funding strategies, and choose projects identified by community leaders that we determine are consistent with Kamukamu’s mission and vision. We rotate meeting locations among our homes in the Olympia area, while some board members appear by phone from more remote locations. The time commitment is far from burdensome, and the work is interesting and fun.
So, if you would like to be able to hold your head up high someday and say “I helped build a school building”, or “I helped create a computer lab”, or “I helped bring electricity to a school and a village”, or that you were part of some other project sponsored by Kamukamu to help schoolchildren in Uganda, then please contact us and inquire about joining our board. One of the problematic educational concerns in Uganda is a lack of transportation for teachers to come to school and do what they do best, teach.

Where there is a need, there is WAY.

With sincere gratitude to Susan Wertz, KamuKamu is honored to present the completed teachers l housing project to service teachers. They are now able to have access to a home nearby which allows them access to school and doing what they do best, teach.

This completed project has allowed the opportunity for two new teachers to join the community and be apart of doing what they do best, teach.

Although teachers have access to this greatness, Stephen Ssemaala, founder of KamuKamu will officially "open" the housing project in July, 2018 when he goes to Uganda to check on all the communities we serve.

Kamukamu wishes to thank Susan Wertz for her generous donation of $5,000. Susan, a world traveler fell in love with Ugandan children when she visited primary schools in Uganda in 2012. She recently sold much of her personal art and artifacts collected over her years of international travel and gave $5,000 of the proceeds to Kamukamu.
The money is already being used to help build a residence for five teachers in Nakalanda, Uganda. This is the second teacher residence that Kamukamu has funded. Remote primary schools that provide teacher housing attract and keep quality teachers. When teachers live close to school, their attendance is not effected by weather and road conditions, thus providing more continuous days of teaching. Thank you, Susan for making a difference in the lives of Ugandan school children.

Kamukamu is very grateful to Broadway Floral of Portland OR, and to its wonderful patrons, for their very generous contribution of $812.00 to our organization. Broadway Floral has been a significant supporter of Kamukamu in the past. This year they conducted another fundraiser for Kamukamu and many of its customers responded. These funds will help provide much needed educational resources in Uganda. The universe has a present for you today.
Ever since I started this project, all I see is you everywhere. It's really true what they say, when you focus on your goal, everything powers towards that goal. You have no point but to win, win, win, all the time, even when you are not. Someone left this change for whatever reason and little did they know that they have contributed to your . Nothing in this world is too big or too small, never let anyone trick you in those false beliefs, everything in this world is connected to the bigger picture that serves your life. A human out there and myself and all of you are now connected over eight cents, an amount so small yet so incredibly . Such is the beauty of this thing we call .

Yesterday was "fathers day." As I was driving to my dad's, I was thinking about his presence in my life. I have always wanted to be just like him, just like him, in everything he did, I wanted to duplicate just the same. He gives me purpose, always have. His dream of making sure every child in gets and is the reason I now have a global project. Yesterday I have $619 for the month of June. I have six part time jobs, only one pays my bills and the other five all go to the . I love what I do, so it's not work at all. It's doing what I have to do in order to do what I need to do. My dad preached that as we were growing up, and still growing up. You must have a stand alone spirit in this world, my Buddhist practice teaches me this, my father has always known this, I am now going to teach you this my sweet loves. Because my father is the pillar of education in Uganda in my world, I am the pillar of YOUR specific education, through this boat project. Dad, Stephanie (sister) and I spent father's day making the boat brochure. It was so fulfilling it represented fathers in an authentic way. More to come my beauties. My mother is the main reason I have a 2yr deadline and because of her position and voice during a board meeting, she started the new chapters that make up my life these days, I am known as the boat lady around my area but most of all, I know myself as the pillar who is close to to $5,000, $20,000 to go my loves!

To the Capable 300!!!
Yesterday was my birthday and I turned 32. I was determined to raise $300 for you, for our passenger ferry boat, that will give you access to education, you have a right to it.

By the end of the night, many people shared their money with me, with you, with us a team to total $391!!!

Everyday, I am closer to getting you to school!!!!

Nichiren states, "Mugwort that grows in the midst of h**p, or a snake inside a tube (will as a mater of course become straight), and that who associate with people of good character will consequently become upright in heart, deed and word." If we apply this passage to various influences upon children, we may say that the environment surrounding children, particularly the behaviors of adults, has a great impact on children. Parents must set good examples before nagging them to do this or that. Parents must strive to become a good, upright influence for children help he,p for Mugwort. It is also important for parents to bring their children close to "people of good character" outside their own families so that children may advance in a more positive direction."

To the Capable 300!!
I just got hired to work with little beings like you at a Synagogue this morning! All the money earned every week will go towards YOU & the educational boat I am making causes for!
I am now a devoted buddhist who goes to a Christian church every Sunday and now works at a Synagogue. My loves, no religion is right or wrong, commit to where your heart calls for but do your best not to disconnect from people because of their religious beliefs. That is cowardly.
I believe in Universal Support, I believe in People, I believe in Learning. I believe in togetherness and Unity. I believe in the philosophy of my mentor, Nichiren Daishonin: "Many bodies, one in mind."
I will pray earnestly that YOU too can be open to all that the world has to offer you, the differences and the similarities.
