Raising Native Hope

Raising Native Hope Raising Native Hope is a 5o1(c)3 charity organization specifically created to help our unhoused Indigenous relatives through donations. We are these people.

As you know winter is coming on and the weather is getting colder and we feel we need to take some quick action on helping our brothers and sisters. For now we are gathering up blankets, gloves, socks, hats, coats and non-perishable food items. Especially food items that can be made into soups to give them a hot nutritious meal. We are planning to cook a meal once a week (for now) to take to them

and try to see to their other needs as best we can to establish a working relationship so we may be of better service in the future. Our greatest needs right now are the things listed above and of course money to buy supplies. This is a new endeavor on our part and we are just in the beginning phase but the weather waits on no-one and we are desperate to get relief to these folks. So this is where we begin. we will begin cooking a hot meal for them once a week (this will increase) and establishing relationships. We have long range goals for this plan. We have a few mountains to cross but we believe we can be successful with your help. We aren’t asking a lot from individuals just maybe some time and effort to help implement the necessary footwork and skills to lend to the task. If you have extra warm blankets or coats, gloves, socks, hats or even some extra canned vegetables in your pantry to donate, anything you can give will be well used. We are also seeking small backpacks or gym bags for bed rolls or small bottles of hygiene products such as shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap, feminine products. So this is the beginning of a plan we hope will go a long way to bringing relief to these worthy people. We will take this a day at a time and as we are able to move forward. We are also asking for your input in this endeavor and any suggestions, or help you can give is greatly appreciated. We welcome anyone who would like to come be a part of this exciting journey and experience the blessings we experience each time we interact with these people. These people are us. When we feed them we feed us. When we give to them we give to us, when we bless them we bless us.

Hi folks! I hope everyone is healthy and well and had a blessed holiday with family and all you love! Mine was good, but in a different way this year, we didn't have our kiddos around or grandkids or anybody really. It was just my husband and me, and it was quiet, with a chance to talk about Christmas' past. We laughed some and got a little misty eyed over the ones who were not with us anymore. I think things were just the way they were supposed to be. Creator is so good to us. When we let him, he puts us where we need to be, and things tend to work out better than what we plan for ourselves. ~

In October, All Souls Universal Unitarian Church held a coat and blanket drive for us, and there was a tremendous response. The outpouring of love and coats was wonderful. It was so great this year, every time anyone asked me for a coat or a blanket I was able to give it to them!! Boy! You should have seen the happy faces, and the relief on the faces was hard to miss. I will remind you here, The Southwest Trading Company on Peoria will still take donations for Raising Native Hope. Hank Bible and his daughter Nicole have been very gracious to us that way, they are good people!

We do have a lady asking if anyone has a good used mattress set, regular or queen size. She has scoliosis and her box springs broke and her mattress doesn't support her at all. She wakes up in a lot of pain sometimes.

Eliza Leach is someone who has helped me alot over the years with Raising Native Hope. She makes dream catchers and sells them and they help pay her rent. She is very good with a goofy sense of humor so some of her dream catchers are pretty unique! You need to go check them out sometime!

If you listen to the news at all you know "our country" is in a state of chaos. AIM IT Oklahoma (Indian Territory) is gearing up for the fight to win it back from those who would destroy it, and MMIP COC (Central Oklahoma Chapter) has been doing its job as well. They are having a Gourd Dance fundraiser this Saturday the17th., Address: 1899 S Gordon Cooper Dr. Shawnee, OK. I hope some of you can come out, it is always a lot of fun and good food!

Signing off for this time ~ Patty Collins

Well, once again our Governor has turned his attention to one of the most helpless groups of individuals we have, the homeless. Seems he thinks the problem started with Mayor Nichols who has been mayor for about a year. Stitt has ordered all encampments to be cleared out, it seems he doesn't like it when they are seen by visitors, (like no one else has a homeless problem.)
Anyway, when a camp is cleaned out or even an individual who is camped out, the cops give them 3 minutes to grab what they want to keep and be gone. As you can imagine, 3 minutes is not enough time to take down their tent, grab their clothes, and whatever else they have in their tent, and leave. So whatever they do not get gathered up gets confiscated. People have even lost all their paperwork, ie. CDIB card, SS card, birth certificate & so on. They lose most everything they have and then need to start over. So many times, I have had someone come in, maybe a month after we have gotten them these documents, needing to file for them again. It is frustrating beyond comprehension! I finally got smart, though. Now I save all their documents in a sealed baggy stapled to their file. I make copies of their IDs and all their paperwork, and that is what they carry now. If that gets lost or stolen, we just make another copy for them, and we don't have to order any more. Anyway, that is part of the reason we go through so many blankets, sleeping bags, and tents.

Well, once again, fall is coming on, and cooler air is a welcome relief. It won't be long, though, till the ground is cooled and miserable for those who have to sleep on it. So, just as a reminder, Raising Native Hope (hereafter RNH) is requesting blankets, socks, gloves, scarves, sleeping bags, sweaters, and food that can be opened by hand. Items for snack packs and toiletries in small quantities. These are a few things that will help to keep the cold at bay.
Also, we have a relative who has recently moved into an apartment and needs literally everything. If you have a bed, chairs, table, towels and washcloths, dishes, or other household items, please call me at 918-852-0959, leave a message, my phone won't answer an unknown number. Or you may call Charlena Wind Werito at 405-593-9545 or Agnes Imitatesdog-McCloud at 918-805-6034. 🥰~ Patty Collins
