Brothers and Sisters,
We regret to inform you that Brother Bill Jones passed away on August 26,2026. Brother Jones was initiated into the local May 10th, 1976 and retired May 2000. We were told by the family there will be a private graveside service reserved for family. Visitation per website will be tonight 6-8pm at Shipman’s funeral in Pryor.

Bill Jones passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. He was born on March 8, 1938, in Pryor, Oklahoma.

Bill graduated from Strang High School and went on to work as an electrician for 35 years. He was a proud member of IBEW Local 584 throughout his career. On July 1, 1957, Bill married Mary Dunham, and they shared 56 years of marriage together until her passing in 2013.

Bill enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He also had a love for fast cars and enjoyed attending drag races. Whether outdoors or around the racetrack, Bill appreciated the simple things in life and the time spent doing what he enjoyed.

Bill is survived by his children, Gary Jones of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Wes Jones of Adair, Oklahoma; brother, J.R. “Skinny” Jones and his wife, Marcy, of Pryor, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Gary Jones Jr., Megan Miles, Paula Malchow, Jamie Hardin, and Jessica Fannin; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Clayton Jones and father Andrew Jackson Jones; wife, Mary Jones; daughter, Joyce “Doity” Jones, grandson, Billie Adam McDaniel; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Bill will be remembered for his many years of hard work, his love of the outdoors and fast cars, and the life he shared with his family.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 1, 2026, in the Benge Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 31, 2026, at Shipman’s Funeral Home. To leave a personal message, please visit his guestbook at www.shipmansfuneralhome.com.

🚨 BIG NEWS FOR OKLAHOMANS 🚨
A $250,000 investment just supercharged the future of union electrical apprenticeships, and it’s happening right here in Tulsa.

Today, Google announced a major workforce development initiative in partnership with the National Electrical Contractors Association - NECA and the Electrical Training Alliance. As part of that effort, our Tulsa Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Center in North Tulsa is receiving a major grant to expand training and bring more Oklahomans into the trades.

What does this mean?

Integrated AI training to keep our programs cutting-edge
Direct pipeline to good-paying careers with union wages, benefits, and retirement

Tulsa Apprenticeship Director Ted Jenkins accepted the grant and spoke about what this investment means for our community and the future of the electrical workforce.

From the news release:

"Google also announced a workforce initiative to address a nationwide shortage of electrical workers. Google has partnered with the National Electrical Contractors Association and awarded a grant to the Electrical Training Alliance to increase the number of apprentices in Oklahoma by 135%.

Porat said the effort will help meet the estimated need for 130,000 additional electrical workers in the U.S. by 2030.

Workforce leaders, including Ted Jenkins of the Tulsa Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, said the funding will also integrate AI into electrical training programs and address a growing labor shortage as many workers retire or leave the field."

We’re ready to put more than 600 Oklahomans to work on this project. A project of this scale will give us the opportunity to recruit around 300 brand new workers into our paid apprenticeship. They’ll learn on the job from day one, and this contract will take them all the way through to becoming a fully licensed electrical journeyman.

That’s more than 300 new lifelong careers in the electrical trade where folks can make a good living doing honest work. More than 300 working class families with a new future that includes healthcare for their whole family, retirement benefits, a brotherhood of electrical workers, and a job where they can hold their head up high.

The business managers of three local labor unions that represent over 2,000 skilled laborers in Green country, have given their support for the proposed "Project Clydesdale" data center in Tulsa County.
