The Greenwood Experience

The Greenwood Experience An exhibit located at Tulsa International Airport showcasing the history of the Greenwood District from it's roots, riots, re-generation, and renaissance.

The Exhibit is designed to inform and inspire the residents of Tulsa and travelers in all stages of life. Our

intent is to give Tulsans and travelers alike the opportunity to learn about Tulsa’s rich history and

celebrate African-Americans “True” entrepreneurial spirit. The main themes of the Exhibit are: Roots, Riot, and Regeneration & Renaissance. It will be a first of its

kind and a uniqu

e showcase featuring strong pictorial and rich textual history. It will explore our roots—the lives and times of the individuals who came to Tulsa to lay claim of the

American Dream. The Exhibit will examine the riot—the infamous 1921 Tulsa Race Riot (the

“Riot”)—using photos, newspaper headlines, and eyewitness accounts. It will consider the post-Riot

regeneration—how, despite numerous obstacles, the Greenwood District came back to life stronger and

better with little outside assistance. The Exhibit will take a look at the renaissance—how the Greenwood

District is making a comeback with the help of major developments in and around the area.
