Dream Action Oklahoma is a community based organization that aims to support the local immigrant community to create social change through advocacy and education. We have been active since spring 2009' and became an official affiliate state in October 2010'. We originally started at Tulsa Community College as the Hispanic Student Association. However, when our students began to encounter issues re

garding their undocumented status, Dream Action Oklahoma was formed to serve the community through activism and advocacy. Recently we have been experiencing growth outside of Tulsa since the fall of 2011' and have added chapters that include students from Tulsa Public Schools, to Universities such as: University of Tulsa, Rogers State University, OSU-OKC, OSU-Tulsa, OU-Norman. 📣 Happening this week! Tsuru for Solidarity is organizing to shut down the Northwest Detention Center! Stay tuned and find out how you can support this action! ✊🏽✊🏽✊🏽

JOIN US in observing this year’s Day of Remembrance with a WEEK OF ACTION to SHUT DOWN NORTHWEST DETENTION CENTER

***

Each February we observe Day of Remembrance, marking the anniversary of the signing of Executive Order 9066, which led to the mass incarceration of over 120,000 Japanese Americans. Since its inception, Day of Remembrance has been a means of collective healing and collective action.

We are the survivors and descendants of Japanese American wartime incarceration. It is because of our communities’ experiences of loss, grief and pain that we fight mass incarceration now.

We are calling for a full and complete shutdown of Northwest Detention Center.

Conditions inside NWDC are deplorable and harken back to conditions inside Japanese incarceration camps.

Immigrants deserve to be together with their families in communities.

We demand the end of immigrant detention, the end of deportations, and the end of collaboration between the Department of Corrections and ICE.

JOIN US for a YAM 2023 Instagram Live () with our friends at Dream Action Oklahoma on Tuesday, February 7th at 6:00 pm! We’ll discuss the Art as Resistance YAM module and the history of using art to draw attention to injustice and how you can do the same.

There are so many ways to take action for change in your community. Storytelling, direct action, and mutual aid are all ways to build movements outside of legislative advocacy; but art is one of the most enduring protests we have at our disposal. Our communities have used art to draw attention to injustice, to celebrate in the face of oppression, and to reimagine a world that truly works for all of us. Political art drives social change and inspires movements. Whether it’s visual, performance, spoken word, or something we’ve never even seen before, your artistic contributions to social change spark our collective imagination and inform our work for a better world.
