After years of city ownership, Mayor Monroe Nichols officially announced the return of two historic Tulsa parks to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. 2 News Oklahoma's TJ Eckert looked into their history.

What a night! Thank you to everyone who joined us for our very first event. Over 50 people gathered to hear RaeLynn share the history of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and their journey to the Council Oak Tree in 1836.

We then visited the tree itself, learning about its resilience and significance over the years.

Huge thanks to .tulsa and for hosting us, and to everyone who helped make the evening possible. 🙏

This is just the beginning—stay tuned for future opportunities to learn, connect, and take part in upcoming work days.

Join the Council Oak Tree Foundation as we clean up garden beds and plant seeds for next year with the help of the Euchee Butterfly Farm and the Tribal Alliance for Pollinators.
During this event we will be pulling weeds, laying mulch and adding seeds for pollinator plants in Stickball Park and Council Oak Park. You can bring your own gardening gloves and tools, but we will also have some available.
This is a great chance to discover plants native to the region and learn about the science behind gardening, all while supporting the Council Oak Tree.

Did you know that you can visit the post oak tree where Tulsa was originally founded by the The Muscogee Nation Locvpoka (Locapoga) Tribal Town in 1836? The massive Council Oak Tree still stands in the Historic Riverview Neighborhood, not far from downtown Tulsa!
