“The Lowdown” was Sterlin’s love letter to Tulsa, and now Tulsa is writing one back.

Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts & Culture, with the support of Tulsans, just launched a non-traditional Emmy consideration campaign for “The Lowdown,” a Tulsa-set drama from Oklahoma filmmaker Sterlin Harjo. The Deadline Hollywood ad links to a behind the scenes FX video that shows how deeply this series is rooted in Tulsa.

This Tulsa nonprofit is celebrating five years with nearly $20 million invested in underrepresented businesses.

With five years of investing in local founders, Build in Tulsa is carrying forward the legacy of Black Wall Street. Since 2021, the nonprofit has supported over 700 underrepresented entrepreneurs, helped create around 270 jobs, and invested nearly $20 million into businesses.

Build in Tulsa was created to close the racial wealth gap by backing Black and other underrepresented founders with capital, coaching, and community. Today, its programs span startup school, accelerators, prototype labs, pitch competitions, and markets that connect entrepreneurs directly with customers.

Congrats Build in Tulsa, thank you for all you do for Tulsa’s founders!

This Historic Greenwood is getting new life as a hub of AI innovation and entrepreneurship.

The former Moton Hospital building is now Greenwood Entrepreneurship at Moton; home to Black Tech Street HQ and Greenwood Cyber + AI Lab in partnership with Microsoft. This community-facing learning space is focused on AI fluency, cyber security, entrepreneurship, and responsible AI use.

Once a hospital that cared for Black Tulsans after the Tulsa Race Massacre, the space sat quiet for years. Now, after $9 million in combined investment from TEDC and partners, it serves as a hub of state of the art technology where entrepreneurs and community members can build their AI ambitions with Microsoft and Black Tech Street.

The goal is to bring high-quality AI and cyber resources into Greenwood so entrepreneurs, organizations, students, and community members can learn, build, and participate in the AI era without needing to leave Tulsa or already be connected to elite tech networks.

For BTS founder Tyrance Billingsley II, who grew up in this community and went to Carver across the street, seeing Moton return as a Black-led entrepreneurship hub is a full-circle moment that honors Greenwood’s history while creating new opportunity for Tulsans today.
