🌟 **Meet Cathy Abercrombie**, a master Cherokee loom weaver and the Secretary of the IAA Board. As a third-generation weaver, Cathy began honing her craft at just 8 years old, creating her first set of placemats under the watchful guidance of her grandmother, Pearl Abercrombie.

Cathy’s artistry is rooted in her profound commitment to documenting, preserving, and reviving original Cherokee designs. Her skill lies not only in replicating these historic patterns but in using period-accurate yarns for each era, ensuring an authentic continuation of Cherokee weaving traditions. However, what truly sets Cathy apart is her ability to blend tradition with innovation. She masterfully weaves modern textiles with intricate, unique designs, reflecting both her heritage and a forward-thinking approach to her craft.

Every piece Cathy creates is a testament to the rich history of the Cherokee people, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship, precision, and cultural significance. Her influence extends across generations—her children are award-winning, fourth-generation weavers, and her grandchildren now carry on the family tradition, working on antique looms that breathe life into the past.

Experience the timeless beauty, quality, and heritage of Cathy’s work by following Cherokee Woven Spirits Studio - Cathy Abercrombie Textiles and witness the artistry of a woman dedicated to upholding and advancing a cultural legacy.

Beautiful work with a very significant deep meaning and purpose

Reclaim the Void was born from Ngalia elders in Leonora, Western Australia, expressing their pain and grief at ‘those gaping mining holes left all over our country’. The idea was conceived to symbolically ‘seal’ one of the holes with an artwork expressing the story of country.
The vision is to cover a mining pit with a large-scale ‘dot’ artwork made up of thousands of handmade circular rag-rugs woven from discarded fabric. Woven by people from all walks of life and backgrounds, the rugs will be joined together into a giant textile artwork which shows an overall pattern that carries the story of the Tjukurrpa of the country on which the pit is situated.
Reclaim the Void is a bold cross-cultural project. It seeks to raise awareness of the story of country and its importance in Aboriginal culture in both its physical and spiritual dimensions. We invite you to join us.

🌟Meet Johnnie Diacon, an incredibly talented artist whose journey began by painting inside the letters and numbers outlined by his sign-painter father. With eclectic art training from Bacone College, the Institute of American Indian Art, and the University of Arkansas, Johnnie explores a variety of media and styles.

As an enrolled member of the [Mvskoke (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma, the Raprakko Etvlwa (Thlopthlocco Tribal Town), and the Ecovlke (Deer Clan), Johnnie’s cultural heritage deeply influences his work. His father introduced him to art at a young age, and a move from Miami, OK to Springdale, AR led to the discovery of his poor eyesight. An optometrist, who was an avid collector of Traditional Flatstyle paintings, exposed Johnnie to this unique style for the first time.

Today, Johnnie’s traditional works often depict spiritual and ceremonial themes, reflecting his rich cultural background and personal experiences.
