So what is an Eavesdropper? You've heard that part of the duty of the
Tiler (Tyler) is to guard against the approach of Cowans and
Eavesdroppers. Well it used to be typical in Medieval England to
construct your dwelling with an extended eave. This allowed people to
work outside the house, but in a manner protected from the elements.
This enlarged area made it easy for people to hide, listen to whatever
was going on in the house, and then "drop" in on the inhabitants.
