Men can be trafficked too.
In fact, studies show that males account for 40 percent of trafficking victims worldwide.
They also face some additional challenges including stigma, the stereotype of men as perpetrators, reluctance to self identify and a lack of services.

Human trafficking survivors often face lasting effects of trauma long after they have escaped exploitation. PTSD can affect every aspect of daily life, causing flashbacks, anxiety, nightmares, difficulty trusting others, and a constant sense of danger.

These responses are not signs of weakness. They are common reactions to prolonged trauma and abuse.

This PTSD Awareness Month, we recognize the resilience of trafficking survivors and the importance of trauma-informed support, counseling, advocacy, and community resources that help survivors heal and rebuild their lives.

By increasing awareness and understanding, we can reduce stigma and create spaces where survivors feel safe, supported, and empowered in their recovery.

Trouble at home is often a common factor in the stories of trafficked teens. Young people naturally seek out places where they feel valued, accepted, and loved.

One of the most powerful ways to protect children from traffickers is to create a safe, stable, and supportive home environment. Keep communication open, listen without judgment, and have age-appropriate conversations about online safety, healthy relationships, and exploitation.
