Jesus tells us to "go" and make disciples (Matthew 28:19). Acts 1:8 tells us how: we will be His "witnesses" by the "power of the Holy Spirit". In a similar way, 2 Corinthians 5:20 tells us that we are "Christ's ambassadors" and God is "making his appeal through us". Galatians 2:20 says we have been crucified with Jesus and we no longer live but rather Christ lives in us. Am I prepared to be His witness? Am I going forth by the power of the Holy Spirit? Do I accurately reflect the heart of my father as His ambassador? Have I died to myself so that it is Jesus coming out of me and not my own ambition? Before we can "go" we must first "come". Jesus said "come follow me and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Oswald Chambers says, "I must know how to get myself alone with him. I must take time to worship the Being whose name I bear. Am I weary and burdened, as so many missionaries are? Then, says Jesus, 'Come to me.'"
Before we can effectively "go" we must make sure we are first "coming" and following Jesus' way of life.
Make time to wait on God each day! The great missionary, Hudson Taylor says, "it is not lost time to wait upon God". Do I have the margin and space in my life to wait upon God? Your effectiveness in "going" will depend on your transformation through your "coming". Let's make it a priority to wait on God and spend time with our Master each day. We must be His disciple before we can make other disciples!
