⏳ We need 75 more math mentors before Oct. 19, or Tulsa 3rd graders will start the year without one.

Me & My Math Mentor (M4) is simple: you sit down with four 3rd graders at a school near you and play math games for one hour a week, before school, at lunch, or after school.

What it takes:

🔸Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
🔸One Game Night training, where you learn the games by playing them
🔸Commitment: one hour a week for ~16 weeks

What it does: Students in M4 are 1.4x more likely to gain math proficiency, and they get a consistent adult in their corner.

Space Week is off the ground. 🚀

We kicked off Space Week on Friday with Model Rocketry 101, a professional development day for educators at Oklahoma State University. Teachers built and launched rockets and saw a high-powered rocketry demo from OSU Cowboy Rocketworks. Each one went home with three unique rocketry kits for their own classrooms.

Thank you to Dr. Dorinda Risenhoover and the NASA OKSG STEM Engagement Center for hosting, and to every educator who spent their Friday with us. Your students are in for some great launch days.

Space Week continues through Oct. 9. It is made possible by the George Kaiser Family Foundation and the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics.

At Tulsa Flight Night last month, we recognized five Oklahoma educators through the Siegfried Excellence in STEM Education Awards.

➡ Leah Gray (Dollar), Stillwater Middle School Pioneers, Stillwater Public Schools
➡ Ramona Rogers, Booker T. Washington High School, Tulsa Public Schools
➡ Traeton Dansby, Bixby Public Schools
➡ Raegan Teakell, FISTA Innovation Park, Lawton

Each finalist received a custom award and a $5,000 grant for classroom supplies and professional development.

🏆 Leah Dollar was named the 2026-27 Siegfried STEM Educator of the Year and received an additional $5,000.

These five are building robotics programs from nothing, writing grants so cost never decides who participates, and showing students that STEM is a place they belong. Watch the full video to meet all of them.

That's a wrap on our OST Educator Professional Development Cohort. 🎓

For the final day, educators joined us in person for a hands-on learning experience with PEAR: Partnerships in Education and Resilience, capping off a month of curriculum development support and virtual training.

These educators are building and strengthening STEM programs in out-of-school time spaces across our region. Through MOMENTUM, they award digital badges that recognize what their students learn and connect those experiences to pathways, helping youth find more of what interests them. 🏅 Cohort members also received OST Educator Micro-Grants to support hands-on projects, supplies, and new experiences for their students.

Thank you to PEAR and to every educator who spent this month investing in their students. 💙

🤖 SeaPerch Educator Training is back on Saturday, Nov. 7. You'll build an ROV yourself, learn how to coach a team, and take home a free kit for your students. No robotics background required. The training is free and comes with a $100 stipend.

Open to educators in grades 3–12, best suited for 6–12. Priority goes to teachers who haven't done this before.

Meet the newest member of the Nerd Herd 🤓

Amanda Fisher is joining TRSA as our Program Manager for Professional Development, Curriculum, and Resources. She spent the last five years with Outdoor Classroom, creating hands-on STEM programs for learners of all ages and working alongside schools and educators across our community.

Amanda believes the best learning happens through real-world experiences, and she'll bring that approach to the training and resources she creates for teachers.

The evening starts off with private charter transportation from Tulsa into the Osage Hills to Woolaroc, Frank Phillips' ranch retreat, for w**e and a private museum tour across a 3,700-acre wildlife preserve, generously hosted by Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve. Will Rogers called it "the most unique place in this country."

Then on to Price Tower, Frank Lloyd Wright's only realized skyscraper, now mid-restoration by the team behind The Mayo Hotel & Residences. Guests get a construction tour led by the current owners, including H.C. Price's private apartment and office, frozen in time since the 1950s.

🍷 The evening closes with a private four-course dinner and w**e pairings curated by Executive Chef Cameron Werry, generously donated by The Mayo Hotel & Residences.
