KUALA LUMPUR: The Alliance of Chin Refugees (ACR) has called for an end to alleged physical harassment by security guards working at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

ACR chairman James Bawi Thang Bik, who said he had personally experienced such mistreatment, said the guards manning the gates at the UNHCR office had used physical force to turn away refugees who did not make appointments with their caseworkers.

“They are not trained to handle our cases. They are not our caseworkers. They pushed and shouted at us to go back.

Who qualifies to be a :

The five protected refugee criteria are:

1. : The applicant must demonstrate that they were persecuted or fear persecution due to their race.

2. : The applicant must demonstrate that they were persecuted or fear persecution due to their religion.

3. : The applicant must demonstrate that they were persecuted or fear persecution due to their nationality.

4. Opinion: The applicant must demonstrate that they were persecuted or fear persecution due to their political opinion.

5. in a Particular Social Group: The applicant must demonstrate that they were persecuted or fear persecution due to their membership in a particular social group.

These criteria are used to determine if an individual qualifies for refugee status under international and U.S. law.
