Tulsa Orchid Society We are a group of people who get love and celebrate orchids. We learn and teach from each other. Everyone is welcome!

The Tulsa Orchid Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and growing of orchids and to educating the public regarding the care and cultivation of these jewels of the plant kingdom.

Our meeting is this weekend, 9-10-23. We meet at the Tulsa Garden Center Mansion in Woodard Park. This month we have a guest speaker, Dr. Doug Needham. His presentation will be “Fertilizer and Plant Nutrition—How and When to Fertilize Orchids”. Doug is a very good speaker and I’m sure we will learn a lot! Danny with Sandstone Orchids will bring some plants for sale and Jack will have some of his premium mixed bark potting media for sale. Guests are always welcome, hope to see you then.

The Tulsa Orchid Society will have our Annual Orchid Auction this coming Sunday, the 13th at 1:30 pm. We will gather in the auditorium of Tulsa Garden Center Mansion, located in Woodard Park. Last year we had 100 to 200 plants up for auction, not sure what we will have this year. TOS members might have plants they no longer want or divisions of larger plants to share, most will not be in bloom but nice healthy plants. I’m pretty sure one of our members will be selling her total collection to travel abroad. It is open to the public and our Sister Societies, if you have a plant you what to put in the auction that is fine. We only ask that you check that it isn’t full of little critters. Several years ago I had ants all over me from a few plants!
We try to start at 1:30, try to get there early to get your number for bidding or to enter your plants. Always great bargains to be had, last year we had lots of plants going for $.20 on the $1.00!
TOS members will all bring Pot Luck snacks to keep us fueled during the bidding frenzies!

We will a have a meeting this Sunday the 12th at the Tulsa Garden Center at 1:30. Kay has a big whiskey barrel full of a Cattleya portia ‘corulea’ that she plans to bring to our February meeting. We will have a demonstration / class on “How to divide a monster plant & pot up many divisions”. Kay is offering divisions of her plant to anyone bringing a clay pot 6” or larger to take their new plant home. We will provide the potting media. Free to TOS members, asking for minimum donation of $10.00 from non members. Here is a pic of the plant & flower.

We will have a meeting this coming Sunday the 13th. We will meet at The Tulsa Garden Center in the Ballroom (Basement) at 1:30. Open to the public, anyone interested in growing Orchids.
We want to bring back a new member mentor plan called “Green Growers”. Asking all new members, members & visitors to bring in no more than two plants they might be having problems with. Be sure they are critter free! The group can look over the plants & add any advice they might have. Keeping in mind everyone’s growing conditions are different and we all have to adjust to how we grow.
