Today we had the honor and pleasure of serving Elijah. He is a Marine veteran with an incredible story, but like many others he found himself up against so many challenges. Everything he said, and every question he asked, started off with, “Thank you for this.”

Today he has a bed, access to resources, and a community of veterans to support him. Welcome home, Elijah!

“With June being PTSD Awareness Month I feel compelled to share one of my experiences from my first deployment 14 years ago because I think these type of things don't get talked about often enough even as the stigma reduces. Invisible wounds still leave a scar and the Servicemembers who experience them have their worldview forever changed. We all deal with it in different ways but we should not have to hide and bury it because it is part of us. I can admit that my body was literally left in Fight-or-Flight for over a dozen years and even my body was telling me with my first heart attack that led to my medical retirement and that I have struggled and white-knuckled my way forward even after treatments through the VA. I want to encourage all of us Veterans to not be afraid to ask for help because you all deserve the maximum support to your mina, body, and soul. Even if we stumble and make mistakes, that's ok; we deserve to progress and heal. I also want to thank anyone and everyone who has pulled me back up through the years because I have come so close to quitting. If any of my brothers and sisters struggle I want them to reach out and we can lean on each other and trudge forward step by step and not surrender to the dwelling or the what-ifs. Let us lend each other what fire we have left to keep the flame lit for each of our journeys forward.”

This was shared recently by of one of our veterans. Healing can be found, and hope is never ending. We are all in a journey, and they all look different - but every story matters and every veteran we meet has value that they may not even recognize yet. His journey towards healing is one of many!

We have been radio silent for a couple of weeks, and we apologize for that! We have been busy, we have had some team members take some time off, but we have still been focused on serving our veteran community!

In the past two weeks we have been able to get 3 veterans into Transitional Housing, support 2 veterans through Emergency Housing, and we have helped 4 veterans avoid eviction or foreclosure - 9 men and women in the past 14 days who have been served and cared for through you!

In the last day, we have helped 2 veterans step into Transitional Housing and have helped 3 families with rent assistance!

At the same time, our team has received 30 phone calls, over 29 texts, and a few emails in the past 24 hours - all are from veterans in crisis. With the rain fall today, we know the phone will continue to ring.
