Our multi-state, multi-chapter exhibit honoring the 100th Anniversary of the "Mother Road" will be opening soon! We hope to see everyone at the reception on August 14 to meet the artists and celebrate the beautiful work (free and open to the public) - stop by anytime that evening between 5 and 7 pm. If you can't make the reception, the exhibit is also generally open during week-day business hours.

Question: For the Route 66 exhibit, is the use of one medium or style preferred over another?

Answer: All medium and styles are accepted. The sketcher must select their favorite sketches to submit. The important thing is that the sketches demonstrate your on-site visual interpretation of a Route 66 site or related exhibit and/or event.

Don't forget our submission deadline is June 30! See complete submission instructions attached here.

Question: Why is the exhibit being hung according to the Rt 66 sites rather than highlighting the work of the individual sketchers?

Answer: The 2026 USk exhibit, much like USk Tulsa’s 2025 exhibit, was crafted to celebrate our beloved Mother Road and mark this year’s centennial. However, USk Tulsa’s 2024 Exhibit was specifically designed to honor the incredible work of our members and was displayed as such. We’re excited about the possibility of doing that again in a future exhibit!

You've got questions, we've got answers!

Question: How will eligible Route 66 sites be determined for the exhibit?

Answer: Several online guides will be utilized, including https://www.route66roadtrip.com/route-66-maps.htm. Additionally, we will refer to Route 66 Passports and related Route 66 Exhibits and Events. If we are unable to find a Route 66 reference to your sketch, we will notify you and request verification.

Question: What are you looking for in submitted sketches for the upcoming Route 66 exhibit and book project?

Answer: Sketches that follow the USk Manifesto (see written and illustrated versions below) and demonstrate your ON-SITE visual interpretation of a Route 66 site or related exhibit and/or event.

Note: It is perfectly okay to add to, perfect, or color your sketches later at home but we do ask that you sketch at the site you are drawing and not work exclusively from photos of places you have never been.

USk Manifesto
1.) We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.

2.) Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live, and where we travel.

3.) Our drawings are a record of time and place.

4.) We are truthful to the scenes we witness.

5.) We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.

6.) We support each other and draw together.

7.) We share our drawings online.

8.) We show the world, one drawing at a time.

Question: Despite being encouraged to sketch as many Route 66 sites as possible and requested to submit four copies of each sketch for consideration to be displayed in the exhibit, there is a chance that none of my work will be hung. Therefore, I am questioning whether the time, effort, and expense I’ved invested in this endeavor are justified.

Answer: To assist in answering your question, here are some helpful tips: If gallery space at USK Tulsa’s August 2026 Route 66 Centennial Exhibit allows, USk Tulsa intends to showcase at least one of each member’s submitted sketches. This exhibit will be held at Tulsa Community College’s McKeon Creativity Center Gallery. Additionally, all USk members’ eligible sketches will be sent to the other three USk Chapters hosting exhibits—Chicago, Oklahoma City, and Springfield, Missouri. Please be advised that the USk Chapters responsible for hosting the exhibits will select the sketches to be displayed. The sketches they select to exhibit may differ from the USk Tulsa selections.
