🏡 Maple Ridge History | Throwback Thursday! 🏡
📍 312 East 20th Street | Built circa 1915
Built around 1915, this stately North Maple Ridge home combines the gracious proportions and classical details that defined some of the neighborhood’s earliest residences. While often described as Colonial or Georgian Colonial, noted Tulsa historian John Brooks Walton described the home as Craftsman style with classical touches, particularly evident in its distinctive front entrance and columns.
By the 1920s, the home was the residence of Henry Ricker Ketchum and his family. Ketchum came to Tulsa in 1917 and became a prominent hotelier, owning and operating both the Tulsa Hotel and Ketchum Hotel. His connection to Maple Ridge, however, went beyond simply living here. According to accounts of his life, Ketchum owned mule-powered grading equipment and helped excavate many of the streets and basements as the new Maple Ridge neighborhood was being developed.
Like many of Maple Ridge’s century-old homes, 312 E. 20th St. has continued to evolve. A substantial renovation has transformed the interior for modern living while maintaining the scale and character of the original home. Formal living and dining rooms remain, complemented today by an expansive kitchen and family room designed for a more casual style of living. The property now includes multiple living areas, four fireplaces, a finished basement and separate guest quarters. Outside, a swimming pool and covered outdoor living area with fireplace and kitchen extend the home into its landscaped surroundings.
More than a century after it was built, 312 E. 20th St. is a wonderful example of how a historic Maple Ridge home can retain its architectural presence while continuing to evolve for modern life.
