Hello! it has been quite sometime since we have been able to provide updates. Starting in January of this year, we have worked hard to raise awareness and seek some type of reform and justice for all of the claims and issues raised regarding Paws on Pearl. There was a lot of internet and media attention. Through that, a group of wonderful people have come together to work towards restorative justice, and the beginnings of the Animal Care Advocates of Oklahoma.

Over the course of the spring, we were able to work with the Restorative Justice Institute of Oklahoma and the owners of Paws on Pearl to create an Independent Review Panel (IRP) with the goal of ensuring a safe environment for all dogs attending Paws on Pearl. This has been done in full collaboration with the owners of the facility and has produced incredibly balanced and and fair treatment of employees, activists, owners, and dogs alike. We have just issued our first report and are pleased to see so many positive changes in direct correlation with our team's efforts.

The IRP is made up of selected members and former/current clients selected in part by us at ACAOK and by Paws on Pearl (this ensures there is less bias in what is observed). Through this work, we realized this could have a greater impact on the direction and legislature regarding animal care in Tulsa, maybe even Oklahoma.

This is now our goal: working with local businesses to create insightful rubrics. To show, through numbers and reporting, that there is a balance between safety and sustainability in animal facilities while the most precious members of our families, our pets, are in the care of others. Please join us and follow along, as we have a lot of exciting things coming up in the future. Your support means everything.

While protesting tonight we were able to capture this. It’s not just ONE isolated incident— It is sustained abuse. Seeing this owner walk out with his dog and the sadness when he said “yes” something had happened, we hurt with him and his dog; especially as some of us have felt the pain of finding out something has happened to our most beloved companions.

Please join us, as we are there every day @4:30. This is why. This is what we are fighting for. The animals that don’t have a voice and the owners who don’t know or couldn’t believe it could happen to them — it can. In his words “I agree with you now”

Yesterday was a cold one but we are still getting the message out. Our pets deserve better.

We’ve discovered that there are cameras up at Paws on Pearl but not accessible to anyone other than current clients and they are only on until 8pm. Why is that? There are dogs there 24-hours with people who have been reported as abusers. And when I’ve received information of drug and alcohol abuse around the animals at night, or tales of dogs ingesting remnants of ma*****na and having to go to the vet, shouldn’t current clients be able to check on their dogs 24-hours? Shouldn’t previous or concerned citizens have the ability to be reassured of the conditions their animals are in? We need the ability to audit their practices. Everyone should.

If you’re going to be “transparent” there is no room for opacity
