The Oklahoma State Firefighters Association extends our deepest sympathy to the family, friends, and fire service family of Tulsa Fire Department Assistant Fire Marshal Stephen Mixon, who passed away after suffering a medical emergency while on duty.

Stephen dedicated nearly 28 years of his life to serving the citizens of Tulsa with integrity, compassion, and unwavering commitment.

The Memorial Flag has been raised at the Oklahoma Fallen & Living Firefighters Memorial in Stephen’s honor, where it will fly for the next 24 hours as a tribute to his service and sacrifice.

Please keep Stephen’s family, the Tulsa Fire Department, and all who served alongside him in your thoughts and prayers. May the fire service brotherhood and sisterhood surround them with strength, comfort, and support in the difficult days ahead.

🌾 Honoring Native American Day in Tulsa 🌾
Today, we proudly join the celebration of Native American Day in downtown Tulsa, a city rooted in the rich heritage of the Osage, Muscogee (Creek), and Cherokee Nations.

As a union, we stand in solidarity and respect with our Native communities—honoring their traditions, history, and lasting contributions that continue to shape our city.

This day is a reminder of our shared values of community, cooperation, and unity. We are stronger together when we lift each other up and celebrate the cultures that make Tulsa home.
🤝 Together we honor the past, support the present, and build a stronger future.

“It is with profound sadness that the Tulsa Fire Department announces the passing of Lieutenant Brian Bizzell, who was involved in a fatal accident in Owasso on September 30, 2025.

Lieutenant Bizzell faithfully served the Tulsa community since joining the department on August 17, 1998. Assigned most recently to Station 31, he dedicated more than 27 years to protecting lives and serving others with courage, professionalism, and compassion.

He was a respected leader, a trusted colleague, and a beloved member of our fire family. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time.”

Juneteenth is a celebration of progress. Today serves as a powerful testament of how far we’ve come and a stark reminder of how far we yet have to travel. It’s proof that while we have dark and painful parts of our history, change is always possible. This Juneteenth, we pause to remember the victims of slavery, the liberators who fought to end it, and commit ourselves to building a future where every voice is heard and every life valued. Happy Juneteenth, and let’s keep pushing forward together.
