Allow me to re-introduce myself!

I’m your homegirl Shá, and I’m all about building authentic connections which comes in handy when establishing community. I recently relocated to Austin Texas from Tulsa Oklahoma but I’m from Memphis Tennessee and I’ll never let you forget it.

Growing up as a foster youth I had to learn how to connect and establish a sense of belonging wherever I was in the world, and it’s been something I stick close to. Although relocating can be difficult, it’s also full of opportunities to connect and established real authentic connections with people I meet navigating all there is to know and do living in a city.

So come along with me as I explore ATX, establish new connections, and make Austin home.

Babe I’m not new to this, I’m true to this!

Growing up in Memphis, TN. where the population of black people is 64.4% was an experience like no other. I’m blessed I get to say I grew up amongst culture and community and will never take that for granted no matter what room I step into.

Yet, I believe it’s also important to mention my late grandfather’s dedication to exposing me to diversity at an age where I could truly grasp what it meant to be “culturally diverse” in America. He uprooted me from a place of comfort to a place where I was the discomfort. I went from being apart of the majority to being among the minority overnight.

That experience prepared me for my journey at where my love for people & community really developed. Despite its historical past, gave me one of my most prized possessions today.. my love for history and people.

When you’ve seen the things I’ve seen, and heard some of the things I’ve heard it’ll turn your heart ice cold, but the power of God is REAL! After everything I’ve seen and heard I’ve never let it turn my heart cold, nor turn me away from choosing to love people.

This month I challenge you to pull inspiration from knowing you’re Black and _____. Filling in the blank with whatever you choose because after all we’re more than just our skin color!
