"We're still here."

That was one of the central themes of Dr. Greg Carr's conversation at the Greenwood 120 Gala.

Reflecting on Greenwood's history, Carr reminded us that despite violence, displacement, and generations of injustice, the community endured. It rebuilt. It persisted.

As we honor the legacy of Greenwood and commemorate 105 years since the Tulsa Race Massacre, we are reminded that memory matters, justice matters, and the work continues.

"Our debt to them is to do at least what they did in their time on Earth."

In this conversation with Tiffany D. Cross at the Greenwood 120 Gala, Damario Solomon-Simmons, President and Chief Legal Counsel of Justice For Greenwood, reflects on what it means to commemorate the Tulsa Race Massacre while also celebrating 120 years of Greenwood's legacy.

Some moments transcend recognition.

At the inaugural Greenwood 120 Gala, we were honored to celebrate Angela Rye, John W. Rogers, Jr., and Bryan Stevenson of Equal Justice Initiative for their extraordinary leadership and commitment to justice.

We were equally honored to recognize Mother Lessie Benningfield Randle.

At 111 years old, Mother Randle remains one of the last living survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. As a child, she witnessed the destruction of Greenwood firsthand. More than a century later, she continues to stand as a living testament to the truth, strength, and enduring spirit of this community.

The evening also marked an investment in Greenwood's future. Justice For Greenwood presented a $25,000 contribution to the Greenwood Trust, accepted by the City of Tulsa Gov Mayor Monroe Nichols, with the hope that resources dedicated to Greenwood will be stewarded responsibly and ultimately benefit the descendants, families, and community members whose legacy continues to shape this historic district.

As we approach the 105th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, we remain committed to honoring those who carry this history, preserving the truth of what happened, and advancing a future worthy of Greenwood's legacy.

Congratulations to this year's honorees, and a special thank you to Mother Randle for continuing to inspire us all.

Greenwood was never just about money.
It was about Black people building power when America said we shouldn’t have any.

Tonight, the Greenwood 120 Gala honors three people carrying that legacy forward: Angela Rye, Bryan Stevenson, and John W. Rogers, Jr. — truth-tellers, justice fighters, and wealth builders shaping Black America’s future. ✊🏾🔥

105 years after the massacre, Greenwood still speaks. And the world is listening.

120 years of Greenwood. 120 years of community. 120 years of legacy.

This weekend, descendants, community leaders, advocates, artists, and supporters from across the country came together for the inaugural Greenwood 120 Gala.

As we approach the 105th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, we reflected on Greenwood's extraordinary history and the responsibility we share to preserve it for future generations. The evening brought together people united by a belief that Greenwood's story deserves to be told fully, truthfully, and with care.

Against the backdrop of America's long history of racial injustice, Greenwood stands as a testament to what was built, what was lost, and what continues to endure. We remain committed to preserving that story with dignity, truth, and care while celebrating the community, culture, and leadership that have carried Greenwood's legacy forward for 120 years.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this gathering possible. The work continues.
