Some moments transcend recognition.
At the inaugural Greenwood 120 Gala, we were honored to celebrate Angela Rye, John W. Rogers, Jr., and Bryan Stevenson of Equal Justice Initiative for their extraordinary leadership and commitment to justice.
We were equally honored to recognize Mother Lessie Benningfield Randle.
At 111 years old, Mother Randle remains one of the last living survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. As a child, she witnessed the destruction of Greenwood firsthand. More than a century later, she continues to stand as a living testament to the truth, strength, and enduring spirit of this community.
The evening also marked an investment in Greenwood's future. Justice For Greenwood presented a $25,000 contribution to the Greenwood Trust, accepted by the City of Tulsa Gov Mayor Monroe Nichols, with the hope that resources dedicated to Greenwood will be stewarded responsibly and ultimately benefit the descendants, families, and community members whose legacy continues to shape this historic district.
As we approach the 105th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre, we remain committed to honoring those who carry this history, preserving the truth of what happened, and advancing a future worthy of Greenwood's legacy.
Congratulations to this year's honorees, and a special thank you to Mother Randle for continuing to inspire us all.
