LCC Hearts of Mercy & Compassion, Crosses for Losses provides a physical and spiritual symbol through the giving of hearts and crosses to families and friends who have suffered loss or serious illness of a loved one. A caring Christian provides these symbols in order to share the ho

One of our oldest affiliates for HMC is Trinity Lutheran Church in Hicksville, NY. They are called upon to gift hearts and crosses across the entirety of the Northeast, as our only affiliate in that region!

They also have two LCC K-9 Comfort Dogs teams and recently, celebrated their 8 years of ministry as a team and Beloved Comfort Dog's birthday! At this rededication, their HMC Ministry Coordinator, and K9 Ministry Leader, wanted to be sure to highlight the collaborative team effort it takes for a successful ministry. Each team member was gifted a Heart of Gratitude from the HMC team. She is so thankful for all the different talents that combine to support their community in this way!

In the Southwest of the country, we are so happy to have an HMC affiliate congregation at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Las Vegas, NV. Their Ministry Coordinator has used the Hearts in a unique way to support his cross-country work network.

Over the last 5 years, there have been a few instances of tremendous loss and tragedy occurring within his cohort of businesses. First, a sudden car accident that severely injured a close family member, then a daughter who died to cancer and most recently, a father, who passed away unexpectedly. Each time, a Heart of Mercy was crafted and then, sent on a journey, across the United States, to collect messages of love and support. After it’s travel, it has been gifted to the grieving colleague. What commitment from this HMC team! Thank you, First Good Shepherd, for showing support can come, literally, from great distances.

Today marks an exciting new chapter.

For the first time, volunteers gathered together at the new LCC warehouse for a large-scale cross-building and painting event, allowing us to replenish our inventory and prepare for future deployments across the country. This milestone represents more than just building crosses—it represents a community united in service, faith, and compassion for those experiencing loss and hardship.

Thank you for your continued support of LCC Hearts of Mercy & Compassion. Your prayers, volunteer efforts, and generosity help bring comfort and hope to people when they need it most.

Today we remember the heroes of D-Day 💜

Today, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and selfless service of those who landed on the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Many never made it home. Many carried the weight of that day with them for the rest of their lives. Their willingness to step into danger for the sake of others changed the course of history and secured freedoms that generations have since enjoyed.

As we honor the heroes of D-Day, we also remember the families who waited, prayed, and sacrificed alongside them.

May we never take for granted the cost of freedom, and may we strive to live lives marked by the same courage, service, and commitment to others.

Did you hear that May 31 was International Flight Attendant Day?!

It was the perfect opportunity to recognize the men and women who spend their days caring for others at 30,000 feet.

LCC K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry teams visited United Airlines at Chicago O’Hare International Airport to present a Heart of Mercy & Compassion as a tangible expression of gratitude for the dedication, compassion, and resilience flight attendants show every day.

The handcrafted heart honored the many ways flight attendants serve travelers beyond their official duties. From offering reassurance during delays to helping passengers navigate difficult situations, their kindness and care often make a lasting impact.

Following the presentation, the Comfort Dogs spent time with flight attendants and airport staff, offering encouragement, smiles, and a few moments of stress relief.

Thank you Flight Attendants!

Please join us in praying for Lt. Ken Bradley's continued recovery! We love the way that the Redeemer Lutheran Church team has been able to build a meaningful relationship with him and then be there for him when he needed it most. 💙

There is such a huge story here. By the grace of God and a huge pickup truck, this fire fighter survived a horrific traffic accident on his way to work several weeks ago. The Berthoud Fire Department is on my drop -in visit calendar and when I walked into his hospital room this past week to see how he was doing, he called me by name! Music to my ears. My team gifted him with a signed LCC Hearts of Mercy & Compassion signed by his local fire department family with prayerfully written get well wishes and messages. We are praying for you, friend, on your road to recovery and that you keep the faith and stay strong. My assigned bible verse is so perfect for you:
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭2‬

Did you know Hearts of Mercy & Compassion has a very active affiliate church in Raymore, MO? Bethlehem Lutheran Church serves both it’s church and community through celebrations and difficulties.

One thing they love to celebrate are confirmations! They use the Luther Seal on the top of each small heart and have the congregation write messages of faith for each recipient. The church even crafts a small stand for the heart to be displayed. They go above and beyond to give thanks for the faith of these young people.

Confirmations at Bethlehem Lutheran happen multiple times each year – the Pastor waits until the children are ready. Sometimes it is an adult who confirms their faith! Most recently, Bethlehem had 9 confirmands. Thank you Bethlehem for your ongoing commitment to your church and community!

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

None of us are meant to carry grief alone.

At Hearts of Mercy & Compassion, we have the privilege of stepping into difficult moments and helping shoulder the weight of sorrow alongside those who are hurting. We may not be able to take away the pain, but we can help lighten the burden by showing up with compassion, listening without judgment, and reminding people they do not have to walk through their grief alone.

This ministry is a reminder that even in life’s heaviest moments, God uses His people to bring comfort, strength, and hope to one another. 💙

“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18

The Hearts of Mercy & Compassion ministry is about going out of our way to show love in a tangible, meaningful way. Through every heart built, every name written, and every message shared, we offer something people can hold onto. It's a reminder that they are not alone in their grief, and that a community stands beside them.

In moments when words can feel inadequate, these hearts become a visible expression of compassion, care, and Christ’s love. They remind those who are hurting that they are seen, remembered, and deeply loved.

This is what it means to love in action: to show up, to serve, and to leave behind something that speaks truth long after we’ve gone. 💙
