Friends and family members of Kate Bratcher gather together each year to participate in the annual 5k walk/run to honor her memory. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 1992. Treatment forced the cancer into remission until the summer of 2001 and then again until January of 2003, when she learned it had spread to her lungs and various bones. Throughout Kate's battle she always mai
ntained a positive outlook and was an inspiration to every life she touched. After a long fight with cancer—one in which she never gave up, nor did she let it claim her spirit—Kate left this Earth on October 5, 2009, one day after her 49th birthday, much to the sorrow of her loving family and friends. Kate's children share her passion for finding a cure and from that passion the "Kate Walk" was born. Twenty-five friends and family gathered in October 2009 to walk in honor of Kate. Every year the number of participants grows, this past year nearly 400 people walked (or ran) to remember Kate or in honor or memory of their own loved ones. Kate Walk has joined with Multi-County Cancer Support network to provide a 5k run/walk to honor Kate and others who have fought the battle against cancer.
