Before he wrote his name in sports history, he unleashed his grit in the Elks Hoop Shoot.

Chris Mullin, sponsored by Brooklyn, N.Y., Lodge No. 22, made 23 of 25 free throws at the 1974 Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals and won a national championship—but that was just the beginning of his basketball journey.

Mullin went on to play 16 seasons in the NBA, where he was a five-time all-star and four-time All-NBA selection. He also won two Olympic gold medals, including one with the 1992 “Dream Team.”

Since he retired from professional basketball, Mullin has been elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (twice), College Basketball Hall of Fame, and of course, the Elks Hoop Shoot Hall of Fame.

The Elks National Foundation will award 500 scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the competition, ranging from $4,000 to $30,000 over four years. With this scholarship, students gain more than just financial aid—they gain an appreciation of service, a network of like-minded peers, and an for life.

💔 It is with deep sadness that we , Newport Lodge 2105, share the passing of our Exalted Ruler, Christopher Beck. Chris loved Elkdom and took great pride in his role, serving with tireless dedication and always striving to make our Lodge and community stronger.

Beyond his service, Chris was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a loyal friend. His kindness, leadership, and commitment will be remembered by all who knew him. His sudden passing has left us heartbroken, and his family is still trying to process this tremendous loss.
