Edit #1 - 09/30/2018 @ 1:15am
It appears someone has been posting to our site for the past 14 hours. Since I am not a social media guru, our first reaction was that we must have been hacked.
After some digging we identified who it is, and they have been removed as a volunteer/staff member of the convention team. The individual in question’s only contribution to our team was Social Media posts during the 2017 convention. I personally apologize for their actions and had all the posts removed.
All admins have been REMOVED from our site except Derek Mazer (Owner) of the Tulare Sci-Fi Con.
Any posts that have appeared today do not reflect the opinions of our Convention, its owner and directors. As soon as we found out we acted as fast as possible to address the issue. These types of posts are unacceptable.
It also saddens our team to learn that Bill Watters, Director of Programming for Silicon Valley Comic Con has made incorrect statements pertaining to our convention on his Facebook, which has had a damaging effect on possible future shows. I have received hundreds of hate emails and vendors vowing to never come to our event again. Many I though where friends. Our team has been tried and convicted for the actions of one individual without the opportunity to respond. The post by one individual DOES NOT reflect the team, the event itself or the charity for which we raise funds for, as he is insinuating. This is why the knee jerk reaction of some on social media is dangerous. As a courtesy and a professional, I would have expected at least a reach out to find out the facts before jumping on the bandwagon to trash and ruin the reputation of a charity event. This will only hurt the charity, all our proceeds benefited. While our show is relatively small, it was the largest in the central valley, and was very well received, the years we were able to have one. At this time it doesn’t look like we have the public and vendor support needed to ever host another show. I will be consulting counsel on Monday.
He also posted that TSFC is part of the Ohana Comic Con Family, this is NOT true. TSFC is not affiliated (and never has been) with Ohana Con’s.
Finally, to be crystal clear, Kathy Clendaniel is not and has never been a member of the Tulare Sci-Fi Con team (as is being reported, by some sharing the original post). I do not know who this person is. My guess is the volunteer/staff member, who shared her post; either knows her or found the post online and shared it. Either way, sharing it to our site was unacceptable.
