Happy National Pollinator Month from the Tule Trust! Preserving pollinator habitat is critical to their survival, which the Tule Trust recognizes by planting wildflowers at its Capinero Creek restoration site. This has had a positive impact on endangered pollinator species including Crotch's bumble bee (pictured above), which has been observed at Capinero Creek.

For Our Future', we wanted to share some photos of the work that we're doing at our Capinero Creek habitat restoration site to preserve the future of land and water sustainability in the southern Central Valley.

The California Water Plan is THE guiding document for the state’s precious water resources. DWR along with the Fresno State California Water Institute held a two day San Joaquin Valley Water Resilience Summit to gather input for the 2028 Plan Update and identify regional needs in light of SGMA.

Tule Trust's Watershed Coordinator Jesse Roseman attended the Summit to highlight the particular issues of the Tule subbasin, and ensure that the Trust’s vision for continued agriculture, secure water supply, and restored natural resources is incorporated into the final document. Thanks to Fresno State for hosting such an impactful event!

The Tule Subbasin is home to a remarkable range of biodiversity, including endangered species like the Tipton kangaroo rat, San Joaquin kit fox, and blunt-nosed leopard lizard. Protecting these species means protecting the ecosystems they depend on, a practice at the heart of the Tule Trust's work.

Through restoration efforts like the Capinero Creek project, the Tule Trust is helping restore critical habitats while also creating opportunities to learn, adapt, and strengthen future conservation efforts. Each project brings us one step closer to a more resilient and thriving subbasin.

The Tule Trust is excited to attend the San Joaquin Valley Water Resilience Summit, hosted by Fresno State and the California Water Institute, on May 20th and 21st! The summit will connect participants to key studies and plans that explore system-wide insights to shape regional priorities and policy direction. Discussions like this are integral for addressing the increasing water insecurity, land loss, and regulatory pressure happening in the Tule subbasin, and the work that the Tule Trust is doing to keep farms viable, reduce flood risk, and restore natural systems.

Last week, the Tule Trust hosted a field trip at its Capinero Creek restoration project site for the Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program (MLRP)! In coordination with The Nature Conservancy, partner organizations and community members were invited to the site to learn more about Capinero Creek's role as a learning lab and the virtual fencing and grazing conservation measures happening at the site. Representatives from the California Department of Conservation and Bureau of Reclamation joined as well. Thanks to TNC for helping to organize such a successful day!

Last week, Tule Trust Executive Director Nick Reed-Krase traveled to Washington, D.C to join the Land Trust Alliance at their 2026 Advocacy Days, designed to bring the land trust community together to advocate for shared policy priorities and inform members of Congress about the important work undertaken by land trusts. The California delegation met with several elected representatives and agencies urging to protect public lands, pass the farm bill, and keep agencies funded. This work is vital to ensuring that the Tule Trust's projects, like Capinero Creek, can restore habitat, purchase easements, and support sustainable land management in the Tule subbasin. Thank you to the Land Trust Alliance for bringing us all together and the California Council of Land Trusts for supporting the California delegation!
