💛💙"Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve"

Today, we planted our first test plot to allow the hands-on educational experience for our agricultural students at Hitchcock-Tulare! Throughout the coming months, students will have the opportunity to learn about everything from the business side to field work as the summer and fall unfold.

Ag Business - 4th place (24 points behind 3rd)
Preston - 7th, Braxton - 15th, Aiden M. - 36th, Tristan - 48th

Tucker B - 38th

Agronomy - 4th (5 points behind 3rd)
Breckan - 2nd (only 2 points from 1st), Addy - 8th, Gentry - 38th, RaeAnna - 42nd

Meats - 2nd
Rylee - 2nd (only 4 points behind 1st) , Jocelyn - 6th, Aiden F. - 14th, Derek - 20th

Nursery Landscape- 8th
Max - 22nd, Sienna - 29th, Patrick - 51st, Devin - 52nd

Poultry
Samuel - 28th

Farm Safety Quiz Bowl - Top 4 finalists - they will go on to compete during the State Fair
Sawyer, Tucker G, Cash, and Davey

Agriscience
Jocelyn and Rylee - 1st in their division
Addy and RaeAnna - 1st in their division
Their projects will now advance on to the National FFA for judging.

SD FFA State Degrees
Morgon B, Tucker B, Braxton J, Regan L, Aiden M, Tristan N, Sienna S, and Preston W

Individuals and teams must now qualify for State Convention. Each district is allowed to send 4 teams and 5 individuals in each CDE. The exception is Poultry, which only allows 3 teams and 2 individuals.

Events will vary, but generally, there are around 50 teams in each event and around 155 individuals. The top 5 teams get announced, the top 3 teams go on stage and get a plaque. The top 20 individuals get announced, top 10 individuals go on stage and get a pin.

Join us tonight at 7 p.m. for the First General Session. During this session, Rylee, Jocelyn, Addy, and RaeAnna will be recognized as finalists in agriscience, and the final results will be announced.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the 21st, the Second General Session will start at 4 p.m. During this session, our eight senior members will receive their FFA State Degrees.

The Third General Session will air at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Fourth and final session of the State Convention will begin at 8 a.m. During this session, our chapter will be recognized for the National Chapter Award, we will hear the statewide results of the Golden Owl Award, and CDE results will be announced. Finally, the 2026-2027 SD FFA State Officers will be elected.

Congratulations Mr. Gross!

Early morning pancake feeds means another opportunity to surprise a deserving Ag Teacher! Today’s announcement comes to you from District 6, Shane Gross from the Hitchcock-Tulare FFA Chapter!

Nominators said this about Mr. Gross:
“He pushes students to discover confidence they didn’t realize they had, and he celebrates their achievements, big or small. He stands out as an agricultural education instructor because he leads with purpose, passion, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student who walks into his classroom.”

The Golden Owl Award recognizes outstanding agricultural educators across South Dakota for their tremendous impact on the next generation of agricultural leaders. Each district honoree receives a plaque and a $500 award, sponsored by Nationwide through the South Dakota FFA Foundation, and is eligible for the $3,000 grand prize to be awarded at the 2026 State FFA Convention.

Help us in thanking Mr. Gross for his passion for agricultural education and seeing his students succeed in and outside of the classroom!
