Green Tukwila Partnership

Green Tukwila Partnership Welcome to the Green Tukwila Partnership! We will work to restore and maintain 53 different places in Tukwila over the next 20 years—and we need your help!

A new partnership between the City of Tukwila, non-profits like Forterra, EarthCorps, and Dirt Corps, Duwamish Alive Coalition and the Tukwila community, to care for public parks and natural open space across the city. A new partnership has begun between the City of Tukwila, non-profits like Forterra, EarthCorps, and Dirt Corps, and the Tukwila community, to care for public parks and natural open

space across the city. By planting trees and other plants, weeding, and joining your neighbors outside, you can make sure we have healthy, safe, and beautiful parks to enjoy into the future. Want to do more? Is there a Tukwila Park or natural area in the city that you think could use a little love? We are gathering a team of volunteers to adopt different parks and help lead the effort to keep them healthy and green. You can learn about trees and environmental restoration, bring your neighbors together around fun projects, and be a local leader. We are especially looking at North Wind’s Weir, Duwamish Hill Preserve, Tukwila Community Center, Riverton Park, the Duwamish Shoreline (section just north of the I-5 overpass), Thorndyke Elementary School, Crestview Park, Crystal Springs Park, Tukwila Park, and Bicentennial Park, but we want to hear your favorites, too. Email us to talk about ways to get involved.

Our riverside Rio Verde restoration site along the Green/Duwamish is looking great today! Lots of beautiful spring growth, including the rare Coastal Manroot vine (Marah oregana).

This plant is native to shorelines and riverbanks from Northern California up to British Columbia. Its twining vines grow up to 20 feet long and it produces small spiky seed-pods in the late spring and early summer.

It’s always exciting to find rare native plants in our urban green parks.

Come join our next restoration event and learn about our region’s ecology!

What an incredible day we had at Discovery Park and Daybreak Star. We enjoyed the native gallery, the viewpoints, the woods, the birds, the salmon berries, the deer and the lighthouse! Thank you to everyone who came along.

This field trip is part of a new program called Green Getaways where we remove boundaries to teach people about the beautiful PNW, wildlife, ecosystems and how we can make a difference.

Thank you!

Nature Vision Blue Team students at Tukwila Elementary this year had a great field trip at Tukwila Park. Partnered with , the students pulled invasive ivy wrapped around the trees and plants, learned about the native trees of Washington, and played a food web game with bandanas. The students also learned about their role in the protection of the Duwamish River and conducted water quality tests on a sample from the waterway. The students drew pictures of the amazing memories they created protecting nature. Fantastic job!

Discovery Park is Seattle's largest park, a 560-acre natural area occupying most of the former Fort Lawton site. Situated on Magnolia Bluff overlooking Puget Sound, Discovery Park boasts spectacular views of both the Cascade and the Olympic Mountain ranges. The secluded site includes two miles of protected tidal beaches as well as open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active dunes, thickets and streams.

Discovery Park provides an open space of quiet and tranquility away from the stress and activity of the city, a sanctuary for wildlife, and an outdoor classroom to study the natural world. Maintained in its semi-natural condition, the park offers a biologically diverse natural area and an unmatched opportunity for environmental education.
