“Big Tech’s weaponization of our data to maximize profit on essential services is, at best, a profound breach of trust, and at worst, illegal," wrote the Congressional Monopoly Busters Caucus co-chairs, including Pramila Jayapal, in response to a recent Consumer Reports investigation into Uber & Lyft's pricing. "The practice of charging our constituents secret, individualized prices for the same trip is unacceptable, especially when working families are being squeezed from every direction."

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressional Monopoly Busters Caucus co-chairs Representatives Angie Craig (MN-02), Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Chris Deluzio (PA-17) and Pat Ryan (NY-18) pressed rideshare giants Uber and Lyft following reports that the companies employed artificial intelligence (AI) driven...

Consumer Reports' in-person testing in Portland (in partnership with Drivers Union OR!) found Uber & Lyft taking 43-49.5% of fares, even though a majority of Americans think most or even all of the fare should go to the driver. Not a good deal for drivers, not a good deal for consumers. 😡💸

👀 Uh, what's going on with Uber & Lyft's pricing for consumers? Consumer Reports did some investigating to find out if different customers pay different prices for the same trip, and well... it's worth a read.

DU gathered this week with our fellow participants in the Unemployment Navigator program, which was created to help diverse communities navigate barriers to accessing the state's unemployment insurance system. As one of 9 community-based organizations in the Navigator program, DU staff trained up to support drivers, and through our participation we've assisted more than 5,000 drivers with information, education, and support around unemployment benefits.

Because drivers fought for our rights, we have benefits like this we can rely on when things go wrong. Something outside your control that prevents you from driving doesn't need to be a catastrophe, you can contact your union and get help accessing benefits so you have support while figuring out next steps. (Learn more and request assistance here https://www.driversunionwa.org/unemployment_support )

Thank you to our partners at Washington Employment Security Department and the 8 other community organizations that participated in the program!
