Juneteenth | Honoring Freedom, Responsibility, and Action

Today, ANEW honors Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Texas finally learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Juneteenth is both a celebration and a call to action. It reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied, and that progress requires more than acknowledgment—it requires accountability.

As we reflect on this history, we recognize that the legacy of inequity continues to shape access to education, economic opportunity, and family-sustaining careers. Honoring Juneteenth means committing to the ongoing work of removing barriers, expanding opportunity, and ensuring that all people have a fair chance to thrive.

At ANEW, our mission is rooted in creating pathways to economic mobility through career exploration, training, and supportive services. We believe that building a stronger workforce means creating a more equitable future—one where opportunity is accessible to everyone.

Today, we remember the resilience, courage, and contributions of those who fought for freedom. We also embrace our responsibility to continue advancing equity, justice, and opportunity in our communities.

Freedom is not just a moment in history—it is a responsibility we carry forward together.
