Last weekend we had an amazing turnout at our BAC Local 1 WA/AK Annual BBQ with over 300 members, retirees, families, and friends coming out! 💪🧱

It was great seeing everyone enjoying some good food, catching up, and spending time with our union family.

A huge thank you to all of our staff and volunteers who put in the work behind the scenes to make this event so special. 🚨 BAC Local 1 WA/AK Members There’s Still Time to Make Your Voice Heard! 🚨

Brothers, sisters, contractors, manufacturers, and industry partners standing together before the Washington State Building Code Council to fight for the future of masonry in Washington.

If you haven’t submitted your written testimony yet, there’s still time. Written testimony will be accepted until 11:59 PM tonight.

Here is all you need to write:

Oppose Proposed Code Revisions 24-GP1-256 and 24-GP1-264. These proposals would eliminate the current energy code path for single wythe masonry walls by significantly increasing insulation requirements, making them much more expensive to build and threatening the future of masonry construction in Washington.

The proposed code changes could dramatically increase the cost of single wythe CMU masonry walls, putting future masonry projects, family wage jobs, apprenticeship opportunities, and our industry at risk.

Every written testimony matters. Even if you couldn’t be there in person, you can still make your voice heard by submitting written testimony before the deadline.

BAC Local 1 WA/AK Members, We Need Your Voice! 📣

The Washington State Building Code Council is considering proposed code changes that could have a devastating impact on masonry in our state.

These proposals would dramatically increase the insulation requirements for single wythe masonry walls, making them significantly more expensive to build. As a result, single wythe masonry could become cost prohibitive and ultimately be designed out of future projects altogether. That means fewer masonry buildings, fewer jobs for our members, fewer opportunities for our apprentices, and a serious blow to our industry.

One of the most effective ways you can help is by submitting written testimony opposing these proposals. Every testimony matters and helps the Council understand the real world impact these changes will have on working families, contractors, manufacturers, and the masonry industry.

If you’re able to attend the hearing and testify in person, please let us know as soon as possible. We need to show up in force and make sure our voices are heard.

Together, we can protect masonry, protect our jobs, and protect the future of our trade.

Last Saturday, BAC Local 1 WA/AK joined International Union leadership in paying our respects to the Jacobberger family and Francis’s wife, Nadine, as we celebrated the life of an extraordinary union brother, leader, mentor, and friend.

Francis Jacobberger dedicated his life to our union for over 25 years and to building the next generation of craftworkers. He was a tireless advocate who trained and mentored several bricklayers and allied craftworkers across the United States, leaving a legacy that will continue to shape our trade for years to come.

Seeing so many brothers and sisters, International Union leadership, and Francis’s family come together was a testament to the respect and admiration he earned throughout our union.

On behalf of BAC Local 1 WA/AK, we extend our love and continued support to Nadine and the entire Jacobberger family. We will honor Francis by carrying forward the values he lived every day.

Rest easy, Brother Francis. Your legacy will never be forgotten.
