This 12-storey tower in Bellevue, Washington, could become the tallest mass timber office building in the United States. Designed by Mithun and Waugh Thistleton Architects for developer Skanska, the 55-metre Bevel building would create around 19,000 square metres of workspace.

The building's upper structure would use exposed mass timber columns, beams and ceilings, supported by a steel core, while five levels of concrete parking are planned below ground. The scheme also includes operable walls opening each office floor to the outside and a 557-square-metre rooftop garden.

Skanska says Bevel would cut carbon emissions by 49% against a baseline building and reuse 95% of the rainfall captured on site. Design and permitting are currently underway.

Federal Judge Orders Pentagon to Resume Wind Energy Project Reviews
A federal judge has ruled that the Department of Defense (DOD) must lift its blockade on onshore wind energy projects and resume national security reviews that have been halted for months.
Background on the Freeze
Under President Donald Trump’s second term, the Pentagon stopped conducting the routine national security reviews required for wind turbines over 200 feet tall. These reviews are needed to determine whether projects could interfere with radar, flight paths, or military training, and are a prerequisite for securing financing, insurance, and state/local permits rv-times.com. The freeze began in April 2026, citing concerns about radar interference from wind turbines, particularly in the context of evolving drone threats rv-times.com.
Legal Action
Renewable energy companies, trade groups, and about 20 states led by Democratic governors sued the DOD, arguing the halt violated statutory deadlines and unlawfully delayed or blocked projects Industrial Info Resources. The plaintiffs said the freeze had stalled at least 106–155 projects across 21 states, potentially costing affected states up to $47 billion in lost investment
