Minority Veterans of America

Minority Veterans of America Minority Veterans of America (MVA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to create belonging and advance equity for underrepresented veterans.

Minority Veterans of America (MVA) is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that was designed to create belonging and advance equity for underrepresented veterans, including women, people of color, LGBTQ, and religious minorities. MVA aims to transform the narrative of the American veteran by building an interconnected community, fostering greater understanding of our memberships’ identities, an

d serving minority veterans through the development of targeted programming and advocacy. MVA was founded in 2017 by Lindsay Church and Katherine Pratt. Church and Pratt first began their work in 2014 through the Husky United Military Veterans where they built a Diversity Committee that celebrated the underrepresented groups within the student veteran community at the University of Washington. MVA and its members are an intersectional movement of minority veterans and allies that represent the needs and spectrum of experiences of the minority veteran community, and have become a collective voice that is bigger, stronger, and more capable of fighting for change. We advocate equity, respect, and justice for all minority veterans. Your community is waiting...

The Take Care of America's Veterans Act will strip earned benefits from future claimants to generate an estimated $15–20 billion in cuts.

Veterans' disability compensation exists because service causes injury. It is not a budget line item, and it should not be treated as one. Funding for it should not come from the pockets of disabled veterans.

U4V calls on all members of Congress to:
-- Oppose any legislation that uses VA disability compensation as a budgetary offset;
-- Support a standalone vote on the Major Richard Star Act;
-- Commit publicly to opposing any bill that cuts earned VA disability benefits.

This workshop is designed to give participants time and space to more fully process how the traditional concept of resiliency has been weaponized against and pushed on military and military-connected communities in an effort to silence the telling of painful truths and legitimate concerns. In this workshop, participants will consider authenticity as a more growth-centered approach to appreciating their strengths while acknowledging the necessity of voice, witness, risk, and care in the process of surviving our stories.

Participants will:

🔸 Reflect on how (and why) resiliency has been perceived and promoted in the past.
🔸 Consider authenticity, the power of truth-telling, and the benefits of strength beyond silence.
🔸 Explore through creative writing exercises the benefits of prioritizing authenticity and courage over traditional resiliency practices.

Dr. Diandra Poe is a Doctor of Social Work, medically retired Army Captain, and survivor of military sexual trauma. After being told "the Army doesn't need broken soldiers like you," she founded Glass Soldier, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting military survivors of sexual trauma that has trained over 10,000 soldiers and civilians. Her doctoral research at the University of Southern California focused on why service members don't report sexual assault — and her findings are driving innovation in third-party reporting. Dr. Poe is the author of Kairos: The Exchange, a memoir bridging faith and science to help survivors transform pain into purpose. A 2025 Daily Record Most Admired CEOs honoree and annual Army Ten-Miler participant, she speaks nationally on military sexual trauma, women's resilience, and the power of healing one step at a time. One year later. Stand with us.

One Year Later, the Work Continues: The Unite for Veterans Coalition Marks Anniversary of Rally

One year ago today, thousands of veterans, federal workers, families, and allies filled the National Mall to deliver a clear message: this country must keep its promises to those who served.

The Unite for Veterans Coalition came together on the anniversary of D-Day, 2025, to oppose cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs, defend the jobs of veterans serving in the federal workforce, and stand for the American values those in uniform swore to protect. The coalition that formed that day has not stood down.

"One year ago, we showed up on the Mall because the contract between this country and its veterans was being shredded," said retired Marine Lt. Col. Joe Plenzler, combat veteran and Unite for Veterans spokesperson. "That work isn't finished. The VA is still under pressure. Veterans' benefits are still under threat. The constitutional norms we defended in uniform still need defending at home. We're still here."

The threats that brought this coalition to Washington have not disappeared. In the year since June 6, 2025, Unite for Veterans has raised its voice on VA disability ratings, unauthorized military action, veterans' voting rights, the firing of senior military leaders without cause, domestic national guard deployments, and ICE’s actions in Minneapolis. Every statement, every action has been backed by the same veterans and allies who showed up on the Mall — people from every state, every branch, and every background.

We are grateful for every one of them. For those who marched. For those who called their representatives. For those who shared their stories. For those who have kept showing up.

The rally was the start. Our coalition is ready. Stand with us.
