Our clothes are one way we tell the story of ourselves to the outside world. So what do you do when your favorite pants rip, or your favorite shirt gets a stain? This workshop explores repair techniques designed not to conceal wear and tear, but to embrace and find beauty in them. Bring a well-loved piece of clothing and learn some hand-sewing basics to patch holes, reinforce worn spots, and add some unique flair to your clothes. No previous experience required, all participants will leave with needles, thread, and a small collection of patching fabric.

Join us and our friends from Trans-Wa and Path With Art at the MVCC for a clothing swap and upcycling workshop on Saturday, July 11th!

Clothing Swap
Starting at 11AM we'll have clothes available for you to browse and take. These were generously donated through the Trans-Wa community closet and Path With Art.

Keturah is a Combat Veteran and has worked in the aviation industry for over a decade. Since service is second nature to her, she immediately became active in AFA-CWA. Soon afterward, she was elected the Master Executive Council President of Local 61. During this tenure, Keturah also secured a historic 100% vote during contract negotiations to strike if negotiations didn’t reach a conclusion soon. After four years and the WORST crisis the Flight Attendant industry had ever faced, Piedmont Flight Attendants ratified a new contract in March 2022!

Since then, Keturah hasn’t stopped making history. On the first day of in 2022, Keturah began her term as AFA-CWA International Vice President making her the first Q***r Woman of Color and Combat Veteran elected to serve in the role. Keturah is passionate about making the aviation industry a safe and inclusive industry that celebrates the diversity of the workers who power it and work to make these spaces safe and supportive for all people, including immigrants, trans people, Black and Indigenous people, and the LGBTQIA+ community so that every person that AFA represents has a voice.

Keturah is the global representative for cabin crew for the International Transport Workers Federation, which represents over 17 million transport workers, including almost a million aviation workers in over 100 countries.

06/08/2026

This workshop is designed to give participants time and space to more fully process how the traditional concept of resiliency has been weaponized against and pushed on military and military-connected communities in an effort to silence the telling of painful truths and legitimate concerns. In this workshop, participants will consider authenticity as a more growth-centered approach to appreciating their strengths while acknowledging the necessity of voice, witness, risk, and care in the process of surviving our stories.

Participants will:

🔸 Reflect on how (and why) resiliency has been perceived and promoted in the past.
🔸 Consider authenticity, the power of truth-telling, and the benefits of strength beyond silence.
🔸 Explore through creative writing exercises the benefits of prioritizing authenticity and courage over traditional resiliency practices.

Come join us for a discussion about the security concerns associated with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Sidewalk, Zigbee, Thread, NFC/RFID, and Cellular.

Participants will:

🔸 Learn about data “over-the-air” (OTA)

🔸 Gain new insight about the invisible digital risk all around us
