Start the year with stronger teams.

Leadership sets the tone on every jobsite. When expectations are clear and equity is built into systems, stay longer, and work safer. A strong culture isn’t accidental; it's built with intention.

Make 2026 the year culture becomes a priority.

In an industry facing labor shortages, equity matters more than ever. When systems are fair, workers feel valued 𝘢𝘯𝘥 they stay in the trades.

Strong teams don’t happen by chance. They’re built intentionally.

Gender-based violence affects people of all backgrounds and communities. It is rooted in inequality and sustained by silence and inaction.

During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence earlier this month, we were reminded that everyone deserves to live and work in respect. Prevention starts with awareness and a willingness to challenge harmful norms wherever they exist.

Ending gender-based violence requires collective action. By listening to survivors, we can help create safer spaces for all.

Today is International Human Rights Day. The UN theme this year is “Human Rights: Our Everyday Essentials." In the trades, “everyday essentials” aren’t just tools and PPE. They’re also things like respect, inclusion, safety, and equity for every worker.

That means no discrimination, real belonging for women, workers of color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, and anyone too often pushed to the margins, safety that protects bodies and mental wellbeing, and finally, systems that make opportunity fair.

RISE Up exists to help construction communities build that culture one crew, site, and leader at a time.

Holiday culture in construction can be a bright spot with shared meals, gift swaps, end-of-year pride. But it can also reveal the parts of our culture that need work.

This season, we're naming a few patterns that quietly harm crews:

- Alcohol-centered events that blur boundaries and can lead to misconduct
- Religious or cultural exclusion when “holiday” is treated as one tradition
- “Just joking” comments that cross the line

None of this is “normal” or “just how construction is.” It’s culture we choose, which means it’s culture we can change.

What’s one small shift your team can make this month to center respect and inclusion? 🎁🚧

Today is Native American Heritage Day, a time to honor the first peoples of this land and the Native nations whose cultures continue today.

At RISE Up 4 Equity, we know equity is built through action. We're reflecting on ways to show up with care like:

🪶 Learning whose land you’re on
🪶 Listening to and amplifying Native voices
🪶 Supporting Native-owned businesses and artists
🪶 Practicing equity all year long, not just on heritage days

We honor Native resilience and today we recommit building to job sites where everyone belongs and can thrive.

We were distraught to hear of the passing of Amber Czech, a welder in Minnesota this week. Amber loved her trade, spending time outdoors, playing sports and chocolate milk.

Amber's tragic death proves true the fear that women in male-dominated fields like construction have constantly: that they are working alongside men who may wish them harm.

According to Charlotte Burrows of the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, “some of the most egregious incidents of harassment and discrimination investigated by the EEOC over the past several years have occurred in the construction industry".

Hate and resentment have no place anywhere, especially not on a job site where the safety and respect of one is critical to the safety and respect of all. It is crucial that we continue to fight for respect and inclusion so that we can create a future free of tragedies like this.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Amber's loved ones.

We believe strong job sites don’t happen by accident. They’re built on four pillars that we've established.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁: Every worker brings value to the jobsite. Recognizing skill, experience and contribution means each person can perform at their best.

𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: A jobsite functions at its highest level when every worker feels like part of the team. Inclusion means giving people the tools and support they need to be safe (and productive).

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆: Safety isn’t just hard hats and caution tape. It’s also about protecting the mental and emotional well-being of every worker. This means speaking up and stopping behavior that puts someone at risk.

𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆: Equity means creating fair systems so that all workers can succeed and stay in the trades. An equitable site is a productive site.

🚧We believe these values aren’t separate. They link together.
When respect is lived → inclusion grows.
When inclusion exists → voices are heard → safety improves.
When safety and fairness are real → equity becomes possible.

A safe jobsite isn’t just about hard hats and harnesses, it’s also about respect.

When every voice is heard, when every worker feels valued, communication gets stronger. And when communication is strong, safety follows.

That’s why RISE Up 4 Equity teaches inclusion as a safety tool. Because protecting people starts with empowering them.
