Carrying the Fire: A Journey of Prayer, Power, and Kingdom Breakthrough in Ethiopia

Prayer remains at the very heart of every breakthrough and the advancing of God’s Kingdom. It is through faithful intercession that doors open, lives are transformed, and communities encounter the power of God.

In Ethiopia, our Women Prayer Warrior Team—led by my wife, Addiskidan—has played a deeply significant role over the years. Their commitment has provided strong spiritual covering for our mission and team as we labor faithfully in God’s work.

Just a few weeks ago, in response to the leading of the Holy Spirit, this dedicated team embarked on a remarkable journey—traveling over 500 kilometers to the eastern part of the country, to the historic city of Harar, where more than 99% of the population is Muslim.

They journeyed through the night by train and spent an entire week in fasting and prayer—interceding for the city, for local churches, and for the ministry work in that region. Beyond prayer, they actively ministered to believers, encouraging and strengthening churches, and equipping many through teaching on the power and practice of prayer. Together, they stood in unity, crying out to God for transformation.

This prayer mission was truly impactful. As their first trip of this kind, the entire team returned filled with joy, gratitude, and renewed vision. They praised God for opening this door and are now prayerfully planning similar missions to other regions across the country.

We believe firmly that through such intercessory prayer, our land will be healed, peace will prevail, and a great Gospel revival will rise across the churches of Ethiopia.

TRAINING OF CHURCH PLANTERS

Church Planters from across 3 regions of Ghana were gathered together to learn and to share ideas on how to more effectively reach out to the lost in the areas where they work and to gain vision of other areas that might need their services.

Whenever we have the opportunity to gather locals for empowerment, training them to reach out to their own people and beyond, using lessons that enforce grassroots participation and mobilization, I am reminded of the work of Unite 4 Africa across the globe. It was great hearing from participants sharing their ‘take aways’ from the training. One of the participants said, “I have been challenged to reach out to the lost and I am ready to do more than what I have been doing.”

Generation of Women Rising in Prayer and Power:

In a quiet but powerful movement, Lydiah has been pouring her heart into mentoring a group of women, raising them in discipleship and deep prayer. Week after week, these women are not only learning the Word, they are becoming it. They are discovering how to share the gospel boldly, beginning right where they are: in their homes, families, and communities.

They are now fasting every Thursday as they have also learned the power of prayer.

With a burden rooted in Scripture, this work echoes the cry of Jeremiah 9:17: “Consider now! Call for the wailing women to come; send for the most skillful of them.”

This is a generation of women raising women who pray, who travail, who carry the weight of revival in their spirits. They are being equipped to evangelize with courage, to speak life, and to stand as vessels of transformation in a world that desperately needs hope.

What began as a small gathering is becoming a movement one home at a time, one heart at a time. Through prayer, discipleship, and bold faith, these women are stepping into their calling, proving that revival doesn’t start in crowds it starts on our knees.

And from there, it spreads like fire.

Bridging Faith and Culture in Nkewua Community:

As part of Unite 4 Africa’s outreach initiatives, I recently visited a community where faith in Christ is still largely unfamiliar. In this community, traditional practices such as circumcision for both girls and boys are still deeply rooted. To connect with the people and earn their trust, I wore the local attire, embracing their cultural expressions and showing respect for their way of life. This helped me create a natural bridge for meaningful dialogue about life, faith, and spiritual transformation.

During my visit, I shared the good news of Jesus, while also introducing the concept of “real circumcision” of the heart, emphasizing that true transformation comes through faith in Christ rather than physical rites. Many community members were deeply touched by this message. Some even secretly gave their lives to Christ, encouraged by the consistent, compassionate, and intentional discipleship we are walking with them through our Discipleship Making Movement (DMM) program.

This visit reinforced the importance of cultural sensitivity in ministry, showing that taking the time to respect and understand local customs opens doors for deeper conversations about faith. By engaging respectfully and consistently, we are not just introducing the Gospel but also walking alongside individuals as they grow in faith, helping them understand and embrace a life transformed by Christ.

Through the work of Unite 4 Africa, we are seeing that even small steps like wearing local attire, listening carefully, and sharing God’s truth in culturally relevant ways can have a lasting spiritual impact, planting seeds that will continue to grow as we disciple these communities over time.

PARTNERSHIP FOR KINGDOM ADVANCEMENT:

Globeserve Missionary School in Northern Ghana trains and sends out Missionaries into the field to advance the Kingdom of Christ through Church planting and disciple making. For some years now Samson has been one of key facilitators who assist in equipping the different sets of Missionaries who come over to be empowered for effective field ministry across diverse communities.

This year Samson had the privilege of training the set of Missionaries in Church Planting Movements and the book of Acts. It was a refreshing time helping these men and women who have a passion to see souls won for the kingdom of God. We shared lessons from the missionary journeys of Paul and inspirations from what the Apostles and the early church did as an example for us to follow for effective ministry.

Stronger Together: Advancing Disciple-Making Across Africa

Collaboration remains at the heart of advancing God’s Kingdom. This past March 2026, I had the privilege of participating in a significant gathering of African Disciple-Making Movement (DMM) leaders in Lomé, Togo. This Leadership Challenge Summit brought together more than 35 key leaders from across the continent, each carrying a shared passion to see disciples multiplied in their respective nations.

Over four impactful days, we engaged deeply—sharing best practices, learning from one another’s experiences, and honestly addressing the challenges we face in different regions. It was a rich time of mutual sharpening, where wisdom flowed across cultures and contexts, strengthening our collective vision for disciple-making in Africa.

A central focus of our time together was leadership development. We reflected on five essential leadership practices: modeling the way, inspiring a shared vision, challenging the process, encouraging the heart, and enabling others. Together, we explored how these principles are not just leadership concepts, but are clearly demonstrated in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. This alignment with Christ’s example brought both clarity and conviction as we seek to lead in ways that honor Him and empower others.

Beyond learning and discussion, the summit was marked by powerful moments of prayer, worship, and genuine fellowship. These times allowed us not only to connect as leaders but also to be spiritually renewed. We left refreshed, encouraged, and united with a renewed mandate—to faithfully pursue the Great Commission and make disciples of all nations, with a particular focus on Africa.

This gathering was a reminder that we are not alone in this mission. God is raising leaders across the continent, and through collaboration, shared vision, and Christ-centered leadership, we are seeing His Kingdom advance in powerful ways.

Hope in Every Hoof: How Goats Are Changing Orphan Lives – Lositeti Community:

As part of our ongoing efforts to empower orphans and vulnerable children, we recently distributed goats to 30 orphans in the Lositeti community. This initiative is designed to provide more than just animals; it is a sustainable livelihood opportunity that can transform the lives of these children and their families. By caring for the goats, the orphans learn responsibility, gain practical skills, and develop a sense of ownership over their resources, which contributes to their overall personal development.

Currently, the rainy season in Kenya has created ideal grazing conditions, and the goats are thriving. During a recent visit, I met Paulo Ndarkau, one of the beneficiaries. Paulo shared a truly inspiring story: his goats have already multiplied, allowing him to donate one goat to another orphan and sell two goats to purchase school supplies. This story highlights how the initiative not only meets immediate needs but also enables the children to support each other and reinvest in their own growth and education.

We are deeply grateful to our donors, whose generosity makes this life-changing initiative possible. Your support is not just giving goats- it is giving hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for these children. Each goat represents more than livestock; it represents education, empowerment, and the chance for a child to break the cycle of poverty.

This initiative demonstrates the transformative power of small acts of support, showing that even modest gifts can create a lasting impact. The orphans are not only gaining resources but also confidence, resilience, and a sense of community, which will continue to bear fruit long after the initial gift. We remain committed to expanding this program and reaching more children, ensuring that sustainable empowerment becomes a reality for every orphan we serve.

How Resurrection Power Changes Everything

The Jesus whose resurrection we’ll be celebrating soon is the same Jesus who raised my tortured heart from death to life years ago. And He used my renewal to bring His message of spiritual resurrection to others.

I’m writing to you today to encourage and remind you that we serve a resurrected Savior who can do the same for every one of us, regardless of our sin or circumstances. That is why Unite 4 Africa exists, to share this Good News with others.

You may know the story of my abduction by a terrorist militia and miraculous escape when I was a teen. In subsequent years I was imprisoned and tortured in several countries for sharing the Gospel. In the midst of the suffering and for a long time after my release I struggled with forgiving my captors. The idea of going back to the prisons where I had suffered so greatly and telling them that I forgive them seemed more than my lack of faith could handle. But I knew that was exactly what I needed to do to obey God. After all, Jesus asked his Father to forgive those who orchestrated his death sentence. How could I do less?

When finally, I obeyed and forgave them (some face to face) my act of obedience was what God used to bring healing to my heart. And eventually it’s what He used to birth Unite 4 Africa. From there so many wonderful, life transforming things have happened:

Last year alone nearly 100,000 people gave their lives to Christ. Thousands of orphans were placed in families and are learning to raise livestock that Unite 4 Africa provides for them. Thousands of girls were provided Dignity Pads so they can attend school every day during their monthly cycles. Nearly 400 young girls (some as young as 7 years old) who were forced to marry older men or recruited by organized crime were rescued. Water projects are transforming entire communities. Poverty-stricken, diseased people are getting medicine. Children from non-Christian homes are attending schools that teach them about Jesus and parents are coming to Christ. Tens of thousands of men and women are being trained to share the Gospel. Hundreds of thousands of people are coming to Unite 4 Africa outdoor meetings to hear about Jesus. And churches are being established to help them grow in their faith.

I want to remind you today of how forgiving and faithful our risen Savior is. And that when we walk in obedience, He not only transforms our lives, but He uses us to share His transforming power with others.

I want to invite you to partner today with Unite 4 Africa to help us continue this work. Our financial need to reach so many more like those I mentioned above but are still yet to be reached is great. Your gift to Unite 4 Africa, like seed sown in a field “ripe unto harvest” as Jesus described it, will bear abundant fruit in the form of transformed lives.

Today, as we approach Easter, you have the opportunity to introduce others to our resurrected Savior. I hope you’ll take that opportunity by sharing a generous gift today at www.Unite4Africa.org/donate.

I Appreciate You Greatly,

Okongo Samson
