The Tucson Jewish Free Loan provides interest-free financial assistance empowering people to achieve self-sufficiency with dignity.

Tucson Jewish Free Loan is a non-sectarian, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering financial assistance to the Tucson community since 1947. We are a Qualifying Charitable Organization in the state of Arizona. TJFL is a member of the International Association of Jewish Free Loans. Life can be challenging for all of us no matter our background, education or social status. Hard times often hit with no warning at all. Sometimes people simply need support in achieving a life long dream. At Tucson Jewish Free Loan our goal is to help people help themselves. Borrowers can feel they have a partner that believes in them and is their champion. Whether financial assistance is needed to pay medical bills, rent and utilities, school tuition or to start a business, the Hebrew Free Loan Association of Tucson can help. We lend a hand to those in need, not a hand out. Loan applicants are treated confidentially with loving kindness. Those who meet our established criteria have an opportunity to receive interest-free financial assistance while maintaining their self-respect and dignity.

Tzedakah is more than giving. It’s a responsibility to care for one another.

After several months away from work to manage ongoing caregiving responsibilities and her own health needs, Denise was ready to return to nursing. First, she needed additional education to renew her RN license.

Tucson Jewish Free Loan provided Denise with an interest-free loan to help cover tuition, textbooks, and exam fees.

Today, she’s repaying her loan and returning to work — and she’s already looking toward her next goal: becoming a traveling nurse. 🩺✨

As Denise repays her loan, those dollars return to the fund and become available to help someone else take their next step.

That’s tzedakah and community responsibility in action. People helping people, again and again. 💙

What exactly is a “free loan”? 💛

At the Tucson Jewish Free Loan, we provide interest-free loans, which means borrowers repay only the amount they receive, with no interest added.

It isn’t a handout. It’s a helping hand for people facing an unexpected expense, working toward greater stability, or investing in a new opportunity.

And when each loan is repaid, those same dollars return to the fund and become available to help the next person.

One loan. Repaid and reused. Creating an ongoing cycle of support throughout Southern Arizona.

We’re also so proud of our Executive Director, Kerry, who took the stage before the show to share a little about the TJFL, our mission, and the impact interest-free lending has in our community.

This Independence Day, we're reminded that freedom comes in many forms.

For one Tucson family, it meant finally having reliable transportation. For another, it meant relief from overwhelming debt. For many of the people we serve, it means the opportunity to move forward without the burden of high-interest loans standing in their way.

In Jewish tradition, we are taught that we are responsible for one another.

Some families are one small emergency away from a financial spiral they never saw coming.

Daniel (not his real name), a member of our community, found himself just $50 short one month.

Just $50. The kind of gap that can happen in any household budget.

Without access to a traditional loan or safety net, he turned to a payday lender.

That $50 loan carried a 129% interest rate.

By the time Daniel came to Tucson Jewish Free Loan, the balance had grown to more than $1,270.

This is the quiet crisis happening in families across Southern Arizona. A small financial setback becomes a debt that grows week after week, taking money away from groceries, rent, transportation, and peace of mind.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, TJFL paid Daniel’s debt in full.

When he received confirmation, he said simply:

“Happy to have that weight off my life.”

That’s exactly why TJFL exists.
