Celebrate Jane Austen’s 249th birthday with us on December 8 at a special Birthday Tea! Model it!" fashion show, and she's looking for attendees who would like to take part by modeling historical clothing they have sewn themselves. June was a pivotal month in “Emma,” with major events and quarrels centered around Midsummer Eve and Midsummer Day.

JUNE 23: “Come, and eat my strawberries. They are ripening fast." Mr. Knightley hosts the strawberry-picking party at Donwell Abbey on Midsummer Eve. On the same day, Harriet Smith turns 18. Fun Fact: June 23 was also Charles Austen’s birthday.

JUNE 24: "They had a very fine day for Box Hill; . . . but in the general amount of the day there was deficiency. There was a languor, a want of spirits, a want of union, which could not be got over.”
