EARTH is honored to know and learn from Dreamstarter recipient Emily Shoteen Sial.
Through the Dreamstarter program with Running Strong for American Indian Youth, Emily's project, Íitl' táawaay ngíisdlaang: Our Traditional Foods Are Healing, will bring Native youth, families, and elders together to learn, share, and connect through traditional Southeast Alaska foods and teachings.
✨🔦 Meet this week's 2026 Dreamstarter Spotlight: Emily Si'al (Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska) ✨
What happens when you're Native, but you grow up far from your homelands?
That's a question Emily has spent a lot of time thinking about.
Now, through her Dreamstarter project, "Íitl' táawaay ngíisdlaang: Our Traditional Foods Are Healing," she's creating opportunities for Native youth, families, and elders to come together to learn, share knowledge, and spend time with one another through traditional Southeast Alaska foods and teachings. 💙🌿
Emily believes these moments matter because they help carry knowledge forward to the next generation.
As she puts it:
"We need the next generation of youth to be empowered to connect with their foods and plant medicines and connect to what those things represent to us as a people."
We're excited to see the impact Emily will make through this project. 👏
