Sometimes it only takes one unexpected setback to make an already tight budget feel impossible.

Grady proudly served our country as an infantry Marine in the U.S. Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal.

Now retired and living on a fixed income, Grady recently faced an unexpected financial hardship when accumulated bank fees resulted in his account being closed.

Honor Charity stepped in.

We provided immediate assistance to help Grady regain some stability and move forward without one more financial burden weighing him down.

This is why Honor Charity exists—to be there when a local veteran needs a helping hand, and to remind them that their community still stands behind them.

Sometimes a veteran doesn’t need a long-term solution. They just need someone to step in at the right moment.

U.S. Army Sergeant Enrique served our country for nearly a decade, including deployments to Bosnia and Kuwait. After recently becoming unemployed, Enrique had already secured his next job—but faced a difficult gap before that first steady paycheck arrived. His electricity was at risk of being disconnected.

Honor Charity stepped in and kept the lights on.

That’s what our mission looks like in action: practical, immediate support that gives local veterans the breathing room they need to move forward.

Enrique is back to work, and we’re proud to have been there when he needed his community behind him.

Veteran Success Story: Raul

After serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, Raul faced a very different battle decades later: throat cancer.

As medical expenses grew, Raul fell behind on rent while waiting for his VA healthcare benefits to be approved. Working alongside Project Action for Veterans, Honor Charity was able to step in with direct rental assistance—helping Raul remain safely in the home he has known for more than a decade while continuing his cancer treatment.

This is why local partnerships matter. Sometimes the right help, at the right moment, can keep a difficult situation from becoming a crisis.

Veteran Success Story: Michael

After serving as a Medical Specialist in the U.S. Army, Michael faced a difficult chapter that included homelessness and the challenge of rebuilding his life through recovery.

Michael committed himself to treatment and sobriety, but as he prepared to leave inpatient care, he needed one critical thing to keep moving forward: a safe, stable place to live.

Working alongside Mo***re Behavioral Health, Honor Charity provided financial assistance to help Michael transition into sober living—giving him the stability to continue his recovery, pursue employment, and rebuild his independence.

Sometimes the right support at the right moment can change the direction of someone’s future. We’re proud to stand beside Michael as he begins this next chapter. ❤️🤍💙

Veteran Success Story: Joseph

After nearly eight years in the U.S. Army, including a deployment to Iraq, Joseph continues to live a life of service.

Today, he’s pursuing a future in ministry and chaplaincy while supporting his wife through her battle with breast cancer. When frequent trips to Phoenix for treatment created unexpected financial strain, Honor Charity stepped in to help with travel expenses—giving Joseph more room to focus on what mattered most: his wife and family.

Service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. We’re proud to stand beside Joseph and his family during this chapter. ❤️🤍💙

Veteran Success Story: Juan

Juan proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, including during the September 11, 2001 attacks—a moment that forever changed his military experience.

Years later, when limited income made it difficult to keep up with essential living expenses, Juan needed a little help getting back on steady ground.

Working alongside Project Action for Veterans, Honor Charity was proud to provide direct financial assistance to help ease that burden and give Juan some much-needed breathing room.

Honor Charity was grateful to attend the Southern Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Hispanic Market Outlook and hear from Chief Richard Picciotto, the highest-ranking FDNY firefighter to survive the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Chief Picciotto shared his firsthand experience from that day—his leadership, the lives lost, the courage shown, and the responsibility we all carry to remember.

As a U.S. Army combat veteran, Bernie has a deep respect for those who serve our country and our communities, and it was incredibly meaningful to meet Chief Picciotto and have him sign a copy of his book.

Thank you to the Southern Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for bringing such an important voice to Southern Arizona and creating space to reflect on service, sacrifice, resilience, and what it means to show up for one another.
