Arizona Conservation Corps AZCC engages young adults and recent era military veterans with conservation service work projects on public lands.

In 2014, Coconino Rural Environment Corps and Southwest Conservation Corps Sonoran Desert Region joined to form the Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC), which now operates conservation service programs across Arizona that empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities and the environment. AZCC has program offices in Flagstaff and Tucson. Arizona Conservation Corps, a program of Conservation Legacy, aims to continue the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. AZCC is focused on connecting youth, young adults and recent era military veterans with conservation service work projects on public lands. Our programs promote personal growth, experiential learning and an ethic of natural resource stewardship while incorporating the guiding principles of community, dedication, challenge, integrity and FUN!

Last week, Crew 113 spent the morning with Native Seeds/SEARCH learning about their work stewarding the seeds of the Southwest. The crew volunteered in the NS/S garden and got a behind-the-scenes tour of the facilities, including their seed banks. Thank you to NS/S for having us!

This past weekend, Crews 111 and 112 attended the BLM's National Public Lands Day at Vermilion Cliffs National Monument where they witnessed captive-bred California Condors being released into the wild! The crews learned all about condor preservation, Leave No Trace, and career pathways with the National Park Service, US Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management.

As Cara, one of the crew members said, "I was also educated on what specifically the rangers do for work and this enlightened a passion for me to continue on my path. Once the time arrived to watch the condors be released, we got to watch the birds soar in the sky and soak in the freedom. I now have the education to continue to empower others on how to leave no trace and to protect the condor species. I am extremely grateful that Arizona Conservation Corps allowed me the opportunity to experience this event, and I will never forget this day!"

What does a career in conservation actually look like? For Jacky De La Rosa, it’s looked a little different at every stop.

After completing two service terms with Arizona Conservation Corps, Jacky is now serving as a Stewards Individual Placements at Tumacácori National Historical Park. Along the way, she’s gained experience in everything from aquatic invasive species management to trail work, building a broad range of skills and finding her place in the conservation field.

We’re grateful to have Jacky as part of the Conservation Legacy community. Thanks for all you do, Jacky!

Guess who recently finished their IP Term? 🤭🤩👏

Danielle Platz served as a Geologist IP supporting the Minerals and Geology program with the Tonto National Forest! Her work involved environmental reviews for mining and exploration drilling projects, cave and karst management, abandoned mine land management, and more! 🪨

Though this wasn’t Danielle’s first time serving with the USFS, she expressed that this was a special experience. “This term allowed me to really challenge myself in taking on more complex projects and strengthening my skills to better prepare me for a permanent position.” 💪

We’d like to extend a huge thank you to Danielle for serving this IP term with Arizona Conservation Corps. We are very proud and excited to see what you do next! 🎉

We are excited to announce the Natural Resources Micro-Certificate Program (NRMCP), offered in partnership with Tohono O'odham Community College! This micro-certificate program is an opportunity to earn an accredited certificate, gain hands-on experience in the field, and take college classes to learn about natural resources.

Training for our incoming fall field crew members is just around the corner, which means it's almost WFA week! Each season with AZCC typically begins with a 16-hour Wilderness First Aid course, where crew members learn all about how to identify and stabilize certain life threats, and treat and prevent wilderness-related injuries and illnesses. With a mix of classroom-based learning and hands-on practice, it's a whirlwind couple days, super informative, and tons of fun. 😷

Also, a big shoutout to Desert Mountain Medicine who provides our WFA curriculum. We love working with them!
