e Israeli occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem; security and self-determination for Israelis and Palestinians; a just solution for Palestinian refugees based on principles established in international law; an end to violence against civilians; and peace and justice for all peoples of the Middle East. Situated just 60 miles from the US-Mexico border that divides the Tohono O’odham Nation, JVP-Tucson draws connections between US/Mexico/O’odham and Israel/Palestine resistance to border militarization through participating with local groups and sharing nationally. We’ve shared perspectives with the wider JVP community through convening panels on cross-border issues at the 2015 and 2017 National Membership Meetings, and coordinating JVPers from across the country coming in for the 2016 School of the Americas Watch Encuentro on both sides of the wall in Ambos Nogales. https://jewishvoiceforpeace.org/soaw/

We’ve continued to focus on cross-border issues with our seders, while holding them in Tucson to make them accessible to more people. Our 2018 Tucson Sukkot ritual drew upon the prior year’s cross-border Sukkot celebration in Ajo (near the area of the most active migrant corridors and subsequent deaths in the desert) attended by humanitarian aid workers and members of the small local Jewish community.
