We are a non-profit organization and our mission is to protect the experience of mountain cyclists and other trail users. To preserve the tradition, condition, and etiquette of the trail; and to present novel trail opportunities in a sustainable and responsible manner. We think riding bikes and throwing High Fives is fun. But we have come to learn is that the more people riding, the more our trail

s get beat up. Couple that with rain (or lack their of), and antiquated trail design and you quickly see how how our fun landscape can change. With City, State, County and Federal land managers having budgets gutted and no real reinforcements in site, our mission and ex*****on of monthly (and in some cases bi-monthly) trail work days is critical to the long term sustainability of not only trails, but to the sport. There are many ways to get involved. 1. Donate 2. Become a member. 3. Join us for a work day or two. We look forward to seeing you on the trails!

🌲🪚 Trail Update from TORCA 🪚🌲

Big thanks to our board of directors and awesome volunteers who got after it yesterday and cleared multiple downed trees from Aspen Draw, Sunset, and Incinerator Ridge! 💪

This recent heat wave may have wrapped up our trail work season at 50 Year a little earlier than usual, but it also helped us get a jump on clearing these trails ahead of time. The good news? They should be riding great for the rest of the season! 🙌🚵‍♂️

With the downed trees removed, you can expect smoother rides and fewer interruptions out there. Your support—whether it’s showing up to dig, saw, or becoming a member—makes a real difference in keeping our trails open and rideable.

If you come across any more downed trees, help us out by sending photos (with location metadata) and coordinates to [email protected].📍📸

Want to be part of the crew that keeps things running? Consider becoming a TORCA member and get involved!

See you out on the trails! 🚵‍♂️

With temperatures starting to climb ☀️, TORCA is wrapping up volunteer trail work in the 50 Year area for the season and canceling our scheduled trail day on 3/22.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out over the past few months and put in the work 🔧⛏️. Because of your efforts, we were able to make major improvements across the system and wrap up the bulk of the work on Stone Cactus 🌵.

While Stone Cactus isn’t completely finished yet, the vast majority of the trail is riding great 🚵‍♂️. There are still a few items left on the list, but the remaining projects are larger in scope and difficult for volunteers to tackle in a single day—especially as the weather gets warmer.

Work will pick back up in the fall once temperatures cool down 🍂. In the meantime, we’ll be scouting the upper Mt. Lemmon trail system to identify maintenance needs and plan summer projects 🏔️.

Thanks again to all the volunteers who showed up ready to dig, move rocks, clear sight lines, and help improve our trails 🙌. Your effort makes a real difference for the riding community. See you out on the trails 🚵‍♀️.

Another big day on the at 50 Year for TORCA! 🙌

Yesterday we had 13 awesome volunteers out putting in work on Cowpies and Baby Jesus—now officially the Stone Cactus Loop 🌵

The crew brushed the entire corridor, cleaned up sight lines, and made the trail fully rideable. It’s running great and ready for tires! There are still a few improvements in the works, and Forest Service with help from TORCA sill continue dialing things until the weather heats up, but you can absolutely get out there and enjoy it now.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up and put in the effort. This is what local trail stewardship looks like. 💪

Of course, a huge thanks for for supplying refreshments after a long hike.

Go ride it—and let us know what you think! 🚵‍♂️

January Trail Day Recap 👷‍♂️🌵

Yesterday we had 12 dedicated volunteers out on the trails continuing work on Stone Cactus trail. The crew focused on adding the finishing touches to re-routes that were roughed in last month—shaping tread, dialing in flow, and making sure everything is built to be more sustainable long-term. We also spent time removing stumps from new sections of trail, clearing the way for safer and smoother riding.

Huge thanks to everyone who showed up ready to work. Every trail day like this moves us one step closer to better trails for the entire community. 💪🚵‍♂️

2025 Recap

In 2025, TORCA made significant progress toward advancing sustainable trail development, maintenance, and stewardship across Southern Arizona. This year represented a pivotal moment for the organization, marked by the initiation of new trail construction, continued system-wide maintenance efforts, increased community engagement, and investment in technical training to support long-term trail sustainability.

New Trail Development

A major milestone in 2025 was the launch of new trail construction on Stone Cactus. TORCA volunteers contributed to the completion of machine-built trail segments and followed up with hand-finishing to refine tread, improve flow, and ensure rider safety. This work also included corridor brushing and the construction of more sustainable re-routes designed to better manage water, reduce erosion, and improve trail longevity in desert conditions.

While substantial progress was made, Stone Cactus remains an active and ongoing project. Additional trail construction, finishing work, and refinements are planned as part of continued build efforts moving forward.

Trail Maintenance and Improvements

In addition to new construction, TORCA focused heavily on maintaining existing trail infrastructure, particularly within the 50 Year Trail System and on Mt. Lemmon. Volunteers addressed a wide range of maintenance needs, including:
-Tread repair and shaping
-Vegetation management and corridor brushing
-Drainage improvements to mitigate erosion and storm damage
-Minor reroutes and sustainability enhancements

These efforts were essential in keeping heavily used trails rideable, safe, and resilient throughout the year.

Training and Capacity Building

Recognizing the importance of technical expertise, TORCA prioritized volunteer education in 2025. Through funding provided by National Forest Foundation grant, TORCA hosted formal rock work training led by Outslope Trail Solutions. Board members and core volunteers participated in hands-on instruction focused on professional trail construction techniques.

This training strengthened TORCA’s capacity to execute higher-quality trail projects and ensured that future builds and repairs meet modern sustainability standards.

Community Engagement and Events

Community engagement remained a key focus for TORCA throughout 2025. In July, TORCA hosted a Lemmon Meringue Ride, bringing together riders from across the region to celebrate local trails and support TORCA’s mission. The event was made possible with assistance from Old Pueblo MTB and Guru Bikes, whose collaboration and support contributed to a successful and well-organized ride.

In August, TORCA partnered with MotoSonora Brewing Company to host a Pint Night, providing an opportunity to connect with supporters in a casual setting while raising awareness of TORCA’s ongoing trail work and fundraising efforts. TORCA also represented the organization and its mission at the Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists Poker Ride, engaging with riders, sharing information about current and upcoming projects, and strengthening relationships within the broader Southern Arizona mountain biking community.

Volunteers and Community Support

Across nine organized trail days in 2025, TORCA engaged 117 total trail workers, representing the cumulative number of individuals who contributed to trail construction and maintenance efforts throughout the year. From first-time volunteers to experienced crew members, this participation highlights the strength and dedication of TORCA’s volunteer community.

TORCA also benefited from continued support from community partners, including Motosonora, whose continued collaboration helped enhance volunteer engagement and community outreach throughout the year.

Looking Forward

The work completed in 2025 established a strong foundation for the future. 2026 is anticipated to include significantly expanded new trail construction, building upon the momentum of Stone Cactus and leveraging the skills, partnerships, and volunteer capacity developed over the past year.

With major projects already underway and additional new trail builds on the horizon, TORCA is well-positioned to continue delivering high-quality, sustainable trail infrastructure that serves the region’s growing riding community.

TORCA extends its sincere appreciation to all volunteers, partners, donors, and supporters who contributed to the success of 2025. Their commitment ensures that high-quality, sustainable trails remain accessible to the community now and into the future.

🔥 FIRST NEW BUILD TRAIL DAY = SUCCESS! 🔥

Yesterday marked a huge milestone for TORCA—our first new build trail day, and the community showed up in a big way! 🙌 Fiveteen dedicated trail workers came out to help bring Stone Cactus to life. It by no means finished, but volunteer and professional trail crews are making amazing headway.

We made serious progress hand-finishing sections of the machine-built trail, constructing more sustainable re-routes, and dialing in the corridor with brushing to prep this trail for the long haul. 💪

And of course, big thanks to for providing post-work beverages—the perfect way to wrap up a hard day of trail building! 🍻

This is just the beginning of something special. If you’ve ever wanted to say “I helped build that trail”—now’s your chance. 🚵‍♂️🔥

Big skills for big trails 🪨🚵‍♂️

Yesterday, TORCA’s board members and a few regular trail workers spent time on the new Stone Cactus Trail learning formal technical rock work techniques from the pros at . This hands-on training was made possible thanks to a grant from the , and it’s a huge investment in the future of our trails.

From shaping durable rock features to understanding long-term sustainability and maintenance, this training helps ensure TORCA can build and maintain high-quality trails that last. The skills learned here will directly support future trail builds and ongoing maintenance projects across all trails we maintain.

A big thank you to Outslope Trail Solutions for sharing their expertise, and to the National Forest Foundation for supporting trail stewardship and education. We’re excited to put these skills to work on Stone Cactus and beyond! 💪

This training just made the game of Tetris a little easier.

Ever wondered what new trails would look like on a 3D map? Wonder no more! After almost 22 hours on the printer, we now have this one-of-a-kind showpiece for the new Phase II trails from the Santa Catalina Trails Plan. Trails in red are existing trails (not every trail is included), and trails in blue are ones in the approval process for Phase II that should ***hopefully*** be ready for build in Fall 2026. 🤞🤞

Stop by our tabling events (Tucson 10er, 24HOP packet pickup, etc.), or come to a board meeting to see it for yourself. 🙌

If you're lucky, you might be able to see it at our trail day on Sunday, so RSVP at the link in our bio!!
