The Queen has finally arrived. 👑
This members-only evening celebrated one of the Sonoran Desert’s most spectacular plants. Members got to experience the beauty and sweet-rich melon fragrance of the Queen of the Night, wander luminaria-lit trails, experienced the fleeting beauty of the blossoms at peak, enjoyed educational presentations, browsed queen plants for sale in the greenhouse, and explored the annual Queen of the Night art exhibit. With over 400 members joining us to see this special moment, the love for our park and the blooming flower was felt amidst the glooming night sky. 💛

For those who couldn't make it during the Member's Bloom Night last night, here are the recap pictures of this once-a-year fascinating experience. The elusive Peniocereus greggii began its remarkable seasonal transformation, and now, we wait until next year for her return.

Bloom Night is an exclusive members-only event. Your support helps preserve the Desert View Trail and our Peniocereus greggii collection while we work to ensure proper pollination of these special plants and create a more intimate experience for those visiting the Queen.
Don’t miss out! Become a member today and prepare to experience this exclusive evening with the Queen of the night + many more events where admission is completely free!

For a limited time, enjoy 25% off annual family memberships and above with promo code FAMILY2026.

🌼It's Bloom Watch season, and Jack Dash (Tohono Chul Gardens & Facilities Manager) is here to let us know the latest update!
Because the timing of the bloom depends entirely on nature, the official announcement can come with very little notice, sometimes just hours before the event begins. Those following Bloom Watch receive updates as the bloom develops and are among the first to know when Bloom Night is officially announced.

This Bloom year, you'll get the chance to see the Queen B, and many more of our other peniocereus greggii, with over 12 blossoming buds to see ! Right now, there are multiple buds ranging from the size of a pinky nail to about to full-size buds that should be ready to bloom and sprout in the next couple weeks✨

Jack Dash, Tohono Chul Gardens & Facilities Manager has an update on our queens!
"As hawks nest and snakes wind their way across the trails, bloom watch continues at Tohono Chul. The majority of our queens are still in their stall phase, with plump, stout buds slowly but surely putting on growth. At this point, we expect the bloom to occur sometime in the first three weeks of June, and we will continue refining our forecast as the buds develop.

The twist this season has been a round of atypically early flowering on some individuals. We had one plant bloom on the evening of Wednesday, May 13, and another on the night of Thursday, May 14. What makes this more interesting is that, around town, our fellow bloom watchers reported early flowers on the same nights in both habitat and horticultural settings.

Now that we have passed this first exciting bloom, we are back to watching, measuring, and caring for our other plants. As always, we will keep you informed about the development of the buds and will give you as much early warning as we can about Bloom Night. Stay tuned!

To watch the bloom yourself, become a member today! This is one of the many perks of becoming a member at Tohono Chul (besides great discounts at our nursery, gift shops, and bistro or free entry for many other events).
