"My Sister as Myself"
The Alpha Pi Omega Sorority, Inc. was founded at UNC-Chapel Hill on September 1, 1994. It is the first Native American greek letter organization in the Nation. The sisterhood has 10 undergraduate chapters and 6 professional chapters with over 500 sisters representing 70 tribes across the nation. The sisterhood stands for four principles: education, spirituality, traditionalis
m, and contemporary issues. Our sorority's colors are fire red, new grass green, and maize yellow. The official philanthropy is the National Indian Education Association (NIEA). About the Chapter
Our chapter history began when the Victory Voices were pledged at the University of Arizona in 2001. Our chapter was officially chartered May 27, 2006. After the chapter went inactive in 2009, the sisterhood returned to the university in Spring 2012 when it was adopted in the United Sorority and Fraternity Council at the University of Arizona. On July 13, 2013, the Zeta chapter was re-instated at the 2013 Grand Gatherings hosted in Tucson, AZ. In addition, on this day the Pima County Professional Chapter also received provisional status with the hopes of fully becoming instated as a chapter during this upcoming 2014 Grand Gathering. In addition to hosting the 2013 Grand Gathering, the chapter has also worked with the Tucson Urban League by hosting events that aim to empower young women. The chapter has gained a lot of support from alumni sisters in the Tucson Area, including Carrie Wood (Zeta Chapter), JoLynn Begay (Zeta Chapter), Nazune Menka (Alpha Chapter), Danielle Hiraldo (Beta Chapter), and Eliza Yellowbird-Johns (Epsilon Chapter).
